Ended up cock up, reach taxi counter call silvercab ask where my taxi silvercab claim cab full (eh hello I book already and you say coming somemore), after 15 mins and a bunch of calls between me, the cabby and the silvercab operator, finally managed to get to cab and got to FOrmosa hotel

Ended up reach hotel, room not ready, so sit in Vienna Cafe, ate chicken rice and complimentary drink and got restless, let my friend jaga my stuff and go search (unsuccessfully) for Happy Massage 8 (see above post (https://www.sbfsg.net/showpost.php?p=15861678&postcount=6566)).

Prices for the girls seem a bit steep, maybe it's because my nego skills/strategy poor or because i not old customer
Silvercab vs non metered taxi: Silvercab is guranteed 20 mins wait and saves you like $3, maybe next time will just be more liberal with cash and take those non metered taxi. Personally I don't feel safe in the non metered taxi so maybe Silvercab is an option if you can plan ahead
Experience with the girls: To me only Girl #3 is good, maybe my expectation too high or my picking skill not good
I think can write off Sri Kandy and Kupupu, they only failed us twice :cool:. Next trip (if there is a next trip) will be Goldbird/Permata Indah/Happy Massage 8
The most selection are Happy Massage 8 and Permata Indah

Like many people in standing inside a Barcelona airport on July 1, 2002, Kaloyev was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his wife, Svetlana, and two kids — son Konstantin and daughter Diana — from Moscow after spending nearly a year apart. (Kaloyev, a respected architect at the time, had been in Barcelona while building a house for a wealthy client.)

But their flight never landed.

While flying over Germany, Bashkirian Airlines Flight 2937 collided with a cargo airliner — DHL Flight 611, which was traveling from Italy to Belgium. The DHL plane had only two people on board, but Flight 2973 was full — 45 children, 15 adults and nine crew members. All 71 people — including Kayolev’s family — aboard both planes were killed in the crash.

Kayolev was among the first relatives to arrive on the crash site, and he immediately began searching for their bodies, reports Newswire.

While he managed to find his daughter Diana, Svetlana had landed in a corn field and his son on the road in front of a bus shelter — both having fallen 36,000 feet.

“As a father, your sympathy is with Vitaly,” says Lester. “Here’s a man who just lost his entire family. I can’t imagine what that would be like — not to be able to say goodbye or have a last memory.”

An official investigation by the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation found that a number of shortcomings on the part of the Swiss air-traffic-control service in charge of the sector involved were the primary cause of the collision, along with ambiguities in the procedures regarding the use of TCAS, the onboard aircraft collision avoidance system.

Following the investigation, air-traffic controller Peter Nielsen was cleared of charges of negligence, according to Newswire. Though he was still employed by the company, he eventually decided to retire.

Devastated by the loss of his family and unhappy with the results of the investigation, Kayolev reportedly suffered a nervous breakdown.

“Vitaly is trying to rationalize it,” says Lester. “But it was an accident, so you can’t.”

“There’s no one to blame in this,” adds Lester.

Kaloyev was offered a settlement of 160,000 Swiss Francs in exchange for not pursuing the company, Skyguide, criminally.

His grief slowly turned into rage.

“There were no moments of light for Vitaly, and there are no moments of light in the film either,” says Lester. “There’s no hope. When you lose absolutely everything, I don’t know how you come out of that level of grief.”

“I have been living at the cemetery for almost two years, sitting behind their graves,” said Kayolev, according to Newswire.

Furious that the company put a dollar amount on his loss, Kaloyev asked to meet with Nielsen face-to-face — a request that was continually ignored. Overcome with a sense of injustice, he hired a private investigator who helped him track down the air-traffic controller’s address.

Two years after the crash, Kayolev turned up at Nielsen’s doorstep in Switzerland and stabbed him to death. Nielson died in the arms of his wife and children.

“Vitaly says he doesn’t actually remember [committing the murder],” explains Lester. “He was so overcome with grief. It was a crime of passion.”

“Killing him didn’t make me feel any better,” Kayolev later told the Russian daily Moskovsky Komsomolets.

Kayolev was sentenced to eight years in prison but served only three years. He was released after Russian officials pressured Swiss authorities and Kayolev insisted he was mentally unstable.

“The film shows an aspect of grief and opportunity for forgiveness,” says Lester. “At some point, you can make sense of the worst, tragic of circumstances and ultimately find that piece of forgiveness. It’s about the capacity of being a human being.”

Yes,still available and I just use that service in my April 2017 trip. But as usual,i went via Harbour Bay and they use a 16 seater to pick me up. Book with them in advance,keep the hotel's phone number in handy just in case they are late (cannot blame them becos sometime ferry delay).

They will have some holding a sign with your name to try to pick you up,hehehe...I got a good surprise when the hotel bell boy came to pick me up in my last trip,hehehe...

Went to buy sim card from the stand just outside the arrival area (opposite 2 money changer) and my eyes pop out when he quote me 100k (I read it was previously 10-50k, times must haved changed). In the end settle for 50k card with limited minutes and 500mb data.

Actually,nearly everything in Harbour Bay is more expensive or should I say,most ferry terminal/airports sells their stuffs more expensively. Keep your sim card for your next trip if you are still heading there within a month or so all you need is to top it up at any K-mart (aka 7-11 look-alike) store. There's now one directly at the ground floor of Formosa hotel. Top up any amount also need to pay service charge of 2k more.

Used sim card to call silvercab, and was quoted 20 mins wait time

If there is still a next trip for yourself, try the method I use.

1. Go to Formosa hotel website,book a room for one night regardless how many night you plan to stay there.

2. Tell them you need their hotel promo pick-up which will cost 50k rupiah 2 way trip (they fetch you from any harbor terminal and then brings you back on your last day).

3. Why I ask you book only one night,even if you plan for more night stay? Becos 1st night will cost you more,subsequent 2nd night onward,join them as member and take up their promo rate :

When you book direct with the hotel,and call for pick up via email,they would have someone at the ferry terminal when you arrived and put up your name to be seen by all at the entrance (by hotel staffs). It really depends on the luck and the time of the day. I must have taken silvercab several hundred times, and my waiting time has ranged between 3-30mins. What I like about silvercab is that if they have no cabs in your general area and you will need to wait for more than 20 mins, they will USUALLY tell u at the point of booking and ask if you still wanna proceed with the booking.

However, there are of course several occasions where I wasn't informed and wait for damn long too, just like what u had experienced. I will usually call and complain; they'll apologise and try to let u know the ETA. Looks like u suay suay kena the short straw, but don't write them off, they are still the best value IMO.

Batam ia safe. Things like raid will occur occasionally. Just make sure you don't do things that will subject you to unpleasant experience. For example, don't pick up girls from questionable locations such as disco that is known to be infested with drug. You don't want to bring back someone who might be in cahoots with her "police boyfriend" looking for extra money.

Important things like excess money, passport etc, make sure keep them under lock. If hotel no safe, then deposit at hotel counter. Some hotels like Formosa have safe at their office where need 2 keys to open and that can be good for keeping valuables. If you open your mouth to ask about it in any booking joint,mami/papi/OKT will tell you its 3 shots, as the one who ask also indirectly tells them that they are a Batam newbie. (cannot be help,most Sillyporean only have a one-straight-path mindset) From the perspective of the Papi/Mami/OKT,i think they might just be saying protecting their girls...but from who? Read on...

In between the last 2 over years,there was an major influx of Indians and Bangala foreign workers coming from Sillypore whereby according to a handful of overnight booking girls (and taxi drivers) telling me,they pay the price of 1 girl,booked only 1 or 2 hotel rooms shared by half a dozen of them,drunked (or maybe drugged) the girls,bonk all they want,change and switch partners in the middle of the night,5-6 men sharing a room with one booking girl, etc etc. Most girls who dealt with then ended w/o or very miserable end-of-session tipping, some even w/o food and water.

1. I leave my passport with the reception of a hotel that i find trustworthy enough. Or keep them in a safe box. (if one wish to travel late into the night,better to bring along passport in case of police-check)

2. I leave behind some small cash and my return ticket or return-home boarding pass inside my passport when i leave my passport at the reception (or safe box). On top of it,i prefer to pay my room in full during check-in (especially needed so if i am using Kaha to book room).

3. I have more than 1 mobile phone. 1 of them i carry it with me,the other i leave it in my room. i also try to get a room that has a direct view from the hotel's hallway surveillance device.

Its just a personal habit during my travel to Batam. On top of it,i always keep the contact for the Singapore Consulate in Batam handy in case one day i find myself being experience-enough in Batam and end up becoming overly confident.

You remind me of a bro who used to join me in Batam,called me past midnight time telling me he lost his wallet after returning from a drinking session at NED...and about 10 mins later,he called again,telling me that he found his wallet. It was a relief.

The next morning he explained to me further that he sat back a bit after hanging up the phone with me and start tracing back his thoughts. He later realize that he wouldnt have been able to take a taxi and return back to his room if he had lost his wallet then (he has no girls with him in-room). Guess he drank a little too much.

Lesson i learned from his incident is,whenever alcohol is involved,always try to take a few mins to back-trace the steps 1st before jumping into any conclusion.

If there's a chance,try Horizon Ferry,hehehe...you will feel the difference but the only sad thing is,cannot smoke. So have to endure for an hour or so w/o smoking when in the ferry.


TBH if you have tried both Batamfast and Horizon and strongly prefer Horizon, you must have some reason that I completely don't see

You see, when I was booking ferry for 2nd trip I tried Horizon first, then turns out I have to go to their counter 1 hour before departure to pay and print boarding pass. And best part of all was their confirmation email took forever to arrive.

While waiting for their confirmation email, I booked Batamfast, paid online AND printed my departure boarding pass then I forget about Horizon

As for smoking, if you heng and you get a craft with an open upper deck, you can smoke to your heart's content


Just to share one more thing which i forget to mention when i reply you earlier. You say something like hotel refuse to help you call Silver Cab or Blue Bird right? On the left hand side of the reception,there is a phone to use, ask the receptionist for permission to use it and then use it to dial Blue Bird/Silver Cab. This should save you a few thousand rupiah of calling time,hehehe...

FR on Trip from 1/5 to 2/5

Day #1
Took 1150 batamfast (see above for reason), bought cheapo 70k sim card with no data plan and then call silvercab. While waiting had lunch. 1pm Batam time cab came

My initial plan was to go to Permata Indah and get a girl from there that I saw during my lasst trip then check in, but she was not there. Took the silvercab to Goldbird but didn't see any girls I liked so went to Formosa hotel to check in

After drop barang barang, went back to Permata Indah, talked to the papi for a while and after badly describing the girl he said that she is not working. Ended up walk back to hotel and then walk to Happy Massage 8 and also didn't see anything to my liking.

Walked back to hotel and then paid a cab 50k to take me to Goldbird and back, there I just randomly picked 1 girl and went back to hotel.

With technology nowadays where everyone almost have some sort of cloud account (Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive), it will help to scan a copy of your travel documents and store it online. In the event that it's lost, you still can recover a copy from your cloud drive.

I think bringing your passport around is mandatory when you travel. Recall the Singaporean who were detained in raids that they don't have their passports with them. Of course, I'm still going to leave my passport in the hotel safe or hotel counter. Can't risk it getting lost.

Eg. A Malaysian without work permit stay in sg for 30 days them do a turnaround at JB an got another 30 day.. but he cant do that continously...as CIA would require him to be away from sg for an unspecified period...before he could enter sg.

Anyways, I don't think they have such a law to limit the number of days per year. For the past 3-4 years, I probably spent more than 180-200 days per year in Batam; haven't had any Batam immigration officers stop or question me yet. The most is upon my departure, they might just casually ask me why I was here for 2-3 weeks, that's all. I give them my reasons and they just go "okay".

In my opinion, it's primarily because we are here to spend money, versus in Singapore whereby in your example, people are likely to go there to earn money. This is the different between first world and third world countries.

The police already knew those tourist 99% nvr bring passport out before going for them. It is in their written law that tourist MUST able to present a valid original passport upon police spotchek.

As far as I know, in all civilized countries the law prescribes that a foreigner must have the passport with him at all times, to be ready to demonstrate he is a legitimate visitor in case of police check.

Try to come to Europe or USA, do something wrong or just be stopped by police for a random check in the street. Do not expect that a smile and "I am Singaporean" without your passport would be enough to leave. Most likely, you would be suspected to be an illegal immigrant, from China, India, somewhere in SEA.

HOWEVER, unless police has a special agenda or reasons to suspect that something is wrong, such rule is never tightly enforced till the consequence to detain someone until he provides the passport (again, I speak about "civilized countries", and I include Indonesia).

MY ADVICE is:

1) When you travel abroad, never bring the passport with you, when you go out from your hotel. The worst thing that could happen to you is to lose your passport or have it stolen, much worse than having the wallet stolen with all cards and other documents.
It happened to me many years ago in the USA and it was REALLY A NIGHTMARE: you need to go to police, contact the nearest Consulate or Embassy (hope it is in the same town where you are, but most likely it will be not), wait they prepare a replacement document, wait they mail it to you, pay the expenses, and ONLY THEN you can leave the country. You might even waste your flight return ticket, since all this may take several days.

2) At all times, keep with you your national picture ID and a paper photo-copy of your passport. It has no legal value, but it will be enough in case of police check (again, unless police has a special agenda or reasons to suspect that something is wrong).

3) As additional measure of safety, make a scan of your passport and put it online (not public on your Facebook, I mean on some URL link which is accessible by anyone who knows the link but not if you don't know it). This will be useful for example if you lose the paper photocopy and need to print another one.

I am used to travel in all continents and I never had a problem following the procedure above. I have been stopped for checks by police in many countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, of course Batam, as well as various countries in South and Central America (countless times in Colombia) or even in Africa.
Sometimes I had to pay a "tip", when the goal of police was the tip and not ensuring the safety of their country, but nobody ever questioned my paper photo-copy of the passport. They know that keeping the real passport with you when you go out is not a good idea.

FR on Trip from 1/5 to 2/5

Day #1
Took 1150 batamfast (see above for reason), bought cheapo 70k sim card with no data plan and then call silvercab. While waiting had lunch. 1pm Batam time cab came

My initial plan was to go to Permata Indah and get a girl from there that I saw during my lasst trip then check in, but she was not there. Took the silvercab to Goldbird but didn't see any girls I liked so went to Formosa hotel to check in

After drop barang barang, went back to Permata Indah, talked to the papi for a while and after badly describing the girl he said that she is not working. Ended up walk back to hotel and then walk to Happy Massage 8 and also didn't see anything to my liking.

Walked back to hotel and then paid a cab 50k to take me to Goldbird and back, there I just randomly picked 1 girl and went back to hotel.

At hotel bonk her 1 time then after that just lie around and play handphone. Bonk her again at about 5pm batam time and was wondering where to go for dinner when she said that she wanted to go off and will come back only at 8pm batam time, she left her stuff in my room after I ask her for her mammi number in case she never come back.

Her leaving is also helpful to me as I can have the luxury of going to Nagoya Hill Mall jalan jalan, went to supermarket to buy snacks to bring back and also bought that cheap and good goreng pisang in a box with topping from one of the street vendors along the way.

Come back to hotel, it was only about 6+, so rest a bit and then 7.30pm decided to go Alishan KTV to bio the overnight booking girls (they quote me 1.5 juta :rolleyes:)

My girl came back at 8.20 and the good thing was that she had already eaten (no need buy dinner for her hehe), lie around somemore then bonk a 3rd time. A short while after the bonk, she said she wanted to leave (see my above post about the 3 bonk rule) so I gave her 50k (she wanted 1000k) and told her to buzz off.

Went to bed not long after

Day #2
Worke up naturally early and went to breakfast, laid around till 11 then walk to Nagoya City Walk Mall (which was lame btw), came back and at 12.30pm went to Permata Indah again to look for that girl.

The OKT show me this girl that wasn't there the day before and said that it was likely the girl I was looking for (Just to detour a bit: I was only booked for 2D1N and I was thinking of extending but wasn't 100% sure yet). The girl seemed to be the one I saw from my last trip, but that time she was smiling and eager and now she's like totally disinterested.

Mood totally killed and I decided to stick with my original plans, instead went to Happy Massage 8 for ST (500k+ 100k tips) with a SYT and then took silvercab to ferry terminal.

Ya, even though I know its mandatory to carry d original passport wherever I go, I will still play safe by keeping my passport in hotel.

But I will hv a photocopy of my passport with me all d time.

I was robbed ,once in Phnom Penh, of my wallet which contain all my money, ic, driving licence, vocational licence, but fortunately my passport was in my hotel. This is a good lesson for me.

Without going into details, I also advice against accepting help from strangers especially when they appear to be vvv helpful.

Interesting. Overall, my impression is that Batam police retains that "gentle touch" of Indonesian people :rolleyes:
In spite of the shouting and drama of those people, they always behaved very professionally, at least under the cameras.

I don't know how many did read about police shootings in the USA, but there, if one tries to run away from police as that black guy did in Batam, it is somehow likely that police first shoots bullets to shoot him down, then asks passport again. Crazy country.

In this video, I notice that most Western people simply reject the concept of "passport check", like "I am not in a civilized country and here I can do what I want". Especially the first one, so drunk he cannot even stand.
I doubt they would have behaved the same way if stopped by police in Singapore or Switzerland, to mention two countries in two very different continents.

After all, what we read is that everyone was simply taken to their respective hotels to show their passports. One may be pissed off for the wasted night, but the request is not absurd.

Should that happen again, to me or others reading this forum, my advice is to be as much collaborative as possible with police officers. No drama.
(and of course, never do anything illegal, as consuming drugs in disco)

Again, try to drive a bike in Holland (from where that guy in Bali comes from), or Switzerland, or USA, without helmet and driving license, then tell me. If you cannot travel so far, try that in Singapore :rolleyes:. I believe the consequences will be the same:
- big fine (100-200 USD I guess)
- possibly bike confiscated until you don't go take your driver license and exhibit to a police office.

The difference here is that the policeman is not honest, and instead of applying the Law asks for a bribe to close eyes and do not prosecute the guilty.

The bottom line is: if you travel from Holland to Indonesia, for what fucking reason you should expect that the same Law you are mandated to obey in your country is not valid in Bali?? That is not the Far West of cowboys. Wear a helmet and bring your driver license.

That what I did when I oversea.

For my annual trip to the Philippines Mt. Province. I even left my PP, credit card, my good handphone in Angeles.
Only carry copy of PP, PNB ATM Card and a old phone up hill.

I think you guys are smokers, so you have no idea how annoying and disgusting is the smell of smoke for non-smokers. Evening kissing a smoking girl for a non-smoker is not a pleasant experience.

If you smoke in a room, just one cigarette, the room will be contaminated with the smoke smell and it will be very difficult to clean it.
A non-smoker will reject the room, and, if forced to stay there, will never go back to that hotel.
In high-class hotels, if you smoke in a non-smoking room, they charge you something like 150-250 USD additional fee for cleaning it, which is a long and complex process (this is normal policy in Europe or USA, I bet also in KL or Singapore).

No need of a smoke detector (this is not a plane): the nose of anyone entering the room is enough.
