Singapore clocked the world’s fastest 4G speed of 44.31 Mbps, followed closely by the Netherlands, Norway and South Korea, according to the survey by OpenSignal.

Three employees have been fined for letting a foreign passenger board the wrong flight at a major airport in Ho Chi Minh City this month.

The chief steward of flight VN651, operated by national carrier Vietnam Airlines, and two staff members of the Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company (VIAGS) have been fined VND4 million (US$176) each for their error, the Civil Aviation Authority confirmed on Tuesday.

Flight VN651 was scheduled to leave Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City for Singapore at 9:10 am on February 20.

The VIAGS was in charge of performing passenger checks at the departure gates of Vietnam Airlines’ flights.

Due to their carelessness, a foreign passenger, who was supposed to travel to Yangon, Myanmar that morning, was allowed to get on the aircraft of flight VN651.

The error was discovered just a few minutes before the plane took off, and the flyer was later escorted to the correct flight.

The Southern Airports Authority was then tasked with probing the case.

According to their reports, the situation arose from the malfunction of the boarding pass security system, which lasted for four minutes from 8:56 am to 9:00 am.

The airport employees were required to check passengers’ tickets manually, which eventually led to the mistake.

Relevant parties have also been asked to review the incident carefully in order to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.

Abt 30 years back when I first helped my previous co. to set up the rep office in Batam Nagoya, you seldom see tourists wandering around in Batam......but now they are like cockroaches everywhere :eek:

Unless you are those that tapao liao and spend the whole day in your hotel room doing energizer rabbit stuff :D and cum out only to makan then the risk is low but I am those that must keep myself whole day occupied with shopping, massage, walk walk look-c-look-c types so difficult to do so with my cewek in-tow unless I dump her in the room which is a risk since she may chao :cool:

Well I not only blame the ground staff but do also blame the passenger too especially if I am a fellow passenger on that plane :eek: kena delay unnecessarily for their carelessness & stupidity :rolleyes:

we discussed this before the staff kena fine...was just a case of complacency and lack of checking...if you been to Tan Son Nhat airport then you will understand that changing gates very common and case of chicken and duck situation....myarmese cannot understand vietnamese and english so gong gong board plane without understanding....then the ground staff of SAG over-worked after a busy TET and khung khung let a wrong passenger on-board thinking that may not happen...:)

only laojiao like us will know when gate will about to change because if flight delay and the plane have not departed when our plane landed then we already preppared to change gate.... :)

If I am on board the plane I will curse and swear because of the unnecessary delay....trust me, I had experienced many delays ...:)

1. circle around the airport for 45 mins because TSN airport closed due to inclement weather and after airport re-open our queue was no. 9.

2. ready for take-off and then Vietnam Airlines plane stalled on the runway and the delay of almost an hour forced the plane to go back to re-fuel after burning quite a bit of fuel waiting for plane to be towed away.

3. cases of passengers late for boarding and captain off-load passenger including their check-in luggage.

4. often see passenger walking to the gate when the aero-bridge already retracted and watch the passenger argue angrily with ground crew.

5. years ago a plane I was in aborted landing and try again after circling a few rounds.

There are reasons for all these hassles but some still complain that it is troublesome n takes too long to clear all these. I always arrive early and slowly clear all these n take 30-60 mins drinking in the airport lounge.

Delays are common... esp during raining or winter season. Most of us get frustrated because mm waiting at the arrival hall or hotel :D

My longest wait was about 4 hrs, once Hanoi to SG due to weather. Another LA to SG due to crews caught in heavy jam. Nbzzzz I could reach the airport on time but why not the crews? :D

The Department of Transport in Hanoi has officially made a proposal to the municipal People’s Committee, forbidding contract-based vehicles with less than nine seats from traveling on a number of urban streets.

Defined as a means of transport operated on an agreement, in the written form or via a smartphone app, between a licensed passenger transit business and a customer, contract-based vehicles include Uber and Grab cars.

Such vehicles will be prohibited on 11 streets within certain time frames.

During rush hours, from 6:00 am to 9:00 am and between 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm, their two way movement is not allowed on the streets of Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Le Van Luong, and Truong Chinh.

Uber and Grab cars and taxis are also banned the entire day on Phu Doan Street (one direction), Cau Giay Street and Xuan Thuy Street (two directions).

They are prohibited from running on Hang Bai Street between 7:00 pm and midnight on Friday and the weekend.

The proposal is awaiting consent from the People’s Committee but its legal effect has started, said Vu Van Vien, director of the Hanoi Department of Transport.

From January 2018, in a pilot program, the department began planting poles banning contract-based vehicles with less than nine seats between 6:00 am and 9:00 am, and from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm on many streets.

Vien said that all Grab and Uber cars are required to stick a contract logo on the windscreen, and those failing to have the symbol while running on the designated streets will receive a twofold penalty from police, on the absence of the logo and the forbidden movement.

In the transport authority’s view, the decision shows the capital’s determination to unsnarl clogged urban roads.

The installation of car ban poles applies on a piecemeal basis, which means that they will be removed from the streets with reduced congestion, while roads with serious traffic jams will have more ban poles, according to Vien.

As Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City grapples with an overwhelming volume of passengers far beyond its design capacity, experts cannot agree on which expansion option is best for the airport and the city.

Most opinions support either of the two options: expanding the airport to the north where a controversial golf course is currently located, or expanding it to the south toward an already congested residential area.

With little time left until the most practical options are to be submitted to the Vietnamese prime minister for final approval, two separate meetings were held on Monday and Tuesday in Hanoi to hear arguments from supporters of both sides.


Southward expansion

At a meeting with the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday, France’s ADP Ingénierie (ADPi), a company specializing in airport architecture and engineering, proposed expanding Tan Son Nhat to the south with a view to raising the airport’s capacity to over 50 million passengers yearly by 2025.

The airport served over 32 million passengers in 2016, while its current capacity is only around 25 million.

To achieve the goal, ADPi suggests a renovation of current taxiways and aircraft stands with the addition of a new terminal to the south of the current airport.

As far as traffic congestion is concerned, the engineering firm said the issue can be resolved by building a new link road reserved only for vehicles entering and exiting the airport, apart from existing mixed-use roads.

Meanwhile, the 157-hectare plot of land that lies to the north of Tan Son Nhat, currently occupied by a namesake golf course, can be used to develop supplementary buildings such as aircraft hangars, warehouses and offices for other logistical services after 2025, according to ADPi.

The engineering firm explained that it would not be economically efficient to raise Tan Son Nhat’s capacity to more than its suggested number, as doing so would require construction of a new runway and terminal to the north of where the current airport sits.

This would lead to costly land clearance and worsen the airport’s drainage problems, while the new terminal would not be properly connected to current ones due to the fact that they are separated by existing runways.

Furthermore, such an isolated runway and terminal would add tremendous operation costs, as they cannot share equipment and vehicles with other parts of the airport.

“I think limiting Tan Son Nhat’s capacity to 50 million passengers a year is a reasonable option,” Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Ngoc Dong said at Tuesday’s meeting.


The northern argument

Meanwhile, a group of experts who were assembled to counsel Ho Chi Minh City’s Party chief Nguyen Thien Nhan on the same issue had come up with an opposite solution to the airport’s capacity limitations.

At a meeting with PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Monday, the experts proposed two options, both of which require expansion to the north.

The first option does not require a third runway, and can only raise the capacity to a maximum of 50 million passengers yearly, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thien Tong, an aviation engineering expert.

The second option is to build a third runway to the north of the existing airport, which could raise its capacity to 70 million passengers yearly by 2025, he said.

“Our options not only take into account the airport expansion as a separate project, but also place it in the context of the surrounding traffic infrastructure and how the airport would help affect an entire urban area around it,” Tong explained.

According to the experts, expanding Tan Son Nhat to the south would only worsen traffic congestion already haunting the southern hub.

Vietnamese PM Phuc has tasked the transport ministry with studying both views and submitting the most feasible options for final approval on the nearest possible date.

Well I have to humbly admit I am one of those impatient ones.....:o wah say airpork lounge ah.......I no chance leh always on budget.......:o

But the irritating thing about Sinkie airpork is that they really go all out to prove that they are better than everyone else so they will make a lot of unnecessary efforts to be few levels higher than anybody else, just like I have stated above at T4 they have those modern 360 deg turn & scan x-ray machine for passengers (which is supposed to expedite and make the scanning station faster since cannot hide anything at all), they still implement 100% physical pat-down for all passengers :rolleyes:

Another pet peeve is that they still make passengers that just came off the planes from other cuntries to go through scanning machines before allowing them into the transit/arrival area, which is damn frustrating as normally once I stepped off the plane I just wana get home ASAP, may be random but as I traveled much too often so many times kena :mad:

Hokkien always have this saying "kiang jio ho but mai kay kiang" and I wholeheartedly applies this to Sinkie Airpork.....:cool:

The fastest way to alleviate the congestion is extremely simple.......just ban that particular cockroaches from that particular cuntry can liao, immediately the TSN airpork becomes 99% quieter and 99% spare capacity.......:D

the gahmen was only keen to see $$ profit$ and still discussing if they should expand the airport North or South...also bear in mind that the gahmen approved a big Long Thanh airport about an hour from hcm...now that airport will be built or not is a question mark...:)

The whole city traffic bottle neck was also a concern and no sign that the city can plan to alleviate this problem...gahmen only keen to sell more vehicles and then after traffic congestion think of building roads...:)

There are uneducated passengers who never take plane b4 or whatever reasons. Staffs manning the counter are paid to do their job n not chatting or surfing on their smartphones. No excuse.

It was kind for the boss of the airport just to fine the staffs and lucky no big harm done to the flight. If the plane crashes thru the city, all hell breaks loose.

Prevention, waste a bit more time to be safe is a better option.

see you dun know hcm or TSN airport...the international departure is fine...crowded in he morning but after that not so crowded...it was the domestic terminal that was packed because Viet Nam in the past few years open new routes and more planes purchased...more affluent vietnamese started to travel by air instead of buses/train...:)

the whole airport is considered as one combine international and domestic but handled by two terminals...:)

Viet Nam has 90 million population and air travel is huge business....ticket is cheap in our context...I flew to haiphong l(2 hrs flight) ast year and my 2 way ticket was less than S$ 100...:)

Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Construction has made a controversial proposal to raise the minimum living space required for internal migrants to register as permanent residents by four times.

The proposed plan, aimed at relieving pressure from the city’s social and technical infrastructure, has been met with criticism from social experts who see little benefit from the new requirement.

According to Vietnam’s law on residency, citizens who want to register as permanent residents in a municipality must have a legal place of residence in the destination city and have been a temporary resident there for at least one year.

A legal place of residence can be either their own property or a rent one.

In the latter case, one applicant must obtain written permission from the house owners that they agree to have him or her register as a permanent resident in their residence book.

The application is only approved if that applicant has a minimum living space of five square meters in the house.

The municipal construction department has proposed increasing the required minimum living space by four times to 20 square meters per person.

Residence books, which tie a person to a permanent address, are issued to the house owner and contain information of all permanent residents who stay at the same address.

Having one’s name in a residence book in a major city like Ho Chi Minh City is a goal for many ‘undocumented migrants’ in Vietnam, as it allows them to enroll their children into local public schools, applying for certain jobs, enjoying welfare benefits and performing a range of administrative procedures.

The move by Ho Chi Minh City authorities has been viewed as a setback, considering the Vietnamese government already made a landmark decision last year to part with residence books in an effort to streamline administrative procedures and citizens’ documents.

he construction department has argued that the hike in internal migrants to the southern metropolis, while boosting its economy, has placed tremendous pressure on the city’s social and technical infrastructure.

The new living space requirement could solve problems including traffic congestion, pollution and overpopulation, it explained.

However, experts have pointed out that the proposed plan would do little to help elevate these problems Ho Chi Minh City is facing, as the internal migrants are still here to stay and work whether they are permanent residents or not.

“Resorting to living space conditions as a tool for residency management reflects an outdated mindset,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Dien, vice rector of the University of Economics and Law in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Instead, authorities should start viewing social problems from an economic perspective and use economic drives to redirect the flow of migrants elsewhere.”

Would airbnb be a better choice for stay or should i find hotel which are "guest friendly"?

The only thing I had agreed with their view is that not to easily dig into Sinkie reserves to fund for expansion and only in emergencies :cool: but unfortunately they never say anything about NOT increasing those reserves at the same time while taxing all Sinkies to fund the expansion, this I do not agree as the yearly increase in reserves definitely in some way have been contributed by those increased taxes other than their so-called "fiscal policies & investments"......:rolleyes:

You can both book a room, though not to stay in the same room together if you are not married to each other especially in those 3 stars and above, best option in these type of hotels is to book 2 rooms under each of your individual names and problem solved ;)

Most 2 stars & below may turn a blind eye but occasionally some may give you problems when you are there. Some may also insist that the girl must be the one that had checked in together with you in the first place. There are no fixed and fast rule, email the hotel to check if they have any restrictions to you bringing your vietnamese girlfrens in the night and keep your fingers crossed when you are there :cool:

There are actually many "guest friendly" hotels but some will need extra $$ when you bring the guest back. You and the guest do not need to be married but they will need the ID of the guest for registration.

Vietnamese property developer FLC Group said on Tuesday it wants to buy 24 Airbus A321neo aircraft for its planned Bamboo Airways operation up until 2025, a deal potentially worth $3 billion.

The announcement signaled an increasingly ambitious plan to invest in Vietnam’s fast-growing aviation industry by FLC, which said last year in an interview with Reuters it plans to lease about seven aircraft by 2018 from Airbus.

Hanoi-based FLC, whose main businesses are housing, resorts and golfing, has not yet obtained a licence to operate an airline, and said in a statement it is waiting for the Vietnamese government to approve its application.

“After studying and carefully scrutinizing the options, FLC Group and Bamboo Airways have decided to order 24 aircraft from Airbus...until 2025,” FLC chairman Trinh Van Quyet said in the statement.

“After operating and testing performance, we will calculate the options to cooperate further,” Quyet said.

FLC expects to buy a further 24 Airbus A321 long-range planes after the Vietnamese firm obtains an airline licence from the Vietnamese government, the firm said in a statement on its website after meeting Airbus representatives.

Vietnam currently has four airlines, including flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, budget operator Jetstar Pacific Airlines partly owned by Vietnam Airlines, budget carrier Vietjet Aviation and Vietnam Air Services Co.

“While waiting for the business licence application to be approved and the order to be confirmed, I propose FLC and Airbus sign a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation in buying 24 A321neo planes worth $3 billion,” Jean-Francois Laval, an Airbus executive vice president, was quoted in the FLC statement as saying.

FLC said it plans to operate international flights through Bamboo Airways to tourist spots in Vietnam including where FLC’s properties are placed, while it also plans domestic flights.

i dn't knw much abt vb pattern,but i read in paper got prc jus bcs wan 2 cum sinkapore agn go rub away their ownself fingerprint lei,so they 4ever no fingerprint...& no tink biometric cn't be immitation hor...my office last time punch card machine is using biomtric aso, our ownself staffs aso can punch in card 4 every1 lei...using a lighter 2 burn black ash out of a empty coca cola can & then use scotch tape 2 imprint out finger print frm the ash 2 the scotch tape can liao loh...lol :D

American national knocked out after food complaints at Vietnam restaurant

Arguments over food quality at a Da Lat restaurant escalated into violence and left at least one female tourist beaten unconscious.

A group of tourists were caught in a physical confrontation with strangers after giving poor feedback over food quality at a restaurant in the Central Highlands' Da Lat on Tuesday, leaving one American woman unconscious.

The tourists had dinner at the restaurant at about 7 p.m. After ordering and discovering that the food was not properly cooked, they complained to the owner. It wasn't received well.

Tension escalated when one of the tourists pulled out a cellphone and attempted to take pictures of the restaurant.

The owner went mad, claimed that the tourists did not pay for the meals and summoned a group of six people to surround and beat up the tourists to prevent the pictures from spreading online, the tourists said.

During the assault, American tourist, Do Sophia Thuy, who is of Vietnamese origin, was smashed headfirst onto the concrete road. She lost consciousness and was taken to hospital.

The 20-year-old tourist who tried to take photos suffered multiple bruises and severe bleeding.

Police are investigating the case.

Da Lat has always been a hotspot for both domestic and foreign travelers, famed for its beautiful scenery and relatively serene weather year-round.

But not all tourists come back with sweet memories.

News about tourists being victims of physical assaults is not uncommon. In May, 2017, a 44-year-old female tourist was also beaten unconscious by a group of local people from a shop in Da Lat after returning overpriced goods from said shop.

A representative from Vietnam was crowned the 2018 Miss International Queen, a transgender beauty pageant, after an enthralling performance in the final night in Thailand on Friday.

The contestants from Australia and host country Thailand were first and second runners-up of the contest held in the Thai resort city of Pattaya.

Male-to-female transgender contestants from 27 countries and territories participated in this year’s Miss International Queen, which has been held annually in Thailand since 2004.


Huong Giang, who became known in Vietnam after finishing fourth at the reality TV singing talent show Vietnam Idol in 2012, made it to the final three after impressing the audience and judges with her evening gown, 55kg traditional costume and swimwear performances during Friday’s finale.

In the last interview question, Giang was asked what social campaign she would launch to make the world better.

“I will demand equality for all because everyone wants to be happy and everyone wants a better life,” Giang answered in Vietnamese.

“The same is true for transgender people. We also want to be happy and have a better life, one that is free of discrimination and prejudice. I will demand equality for transgender people, and I hope we will all work together for a better world. Thank you,” the singer spoke confidently.

A number of ports along the Saigon River are to be moved or converted for other purposes in a bid to ameliorate urban traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring areas.

The plan is in agreement with a long-term vision by the Vietnamese government regarding the development of a pan-regional cluster of ports in southeastern Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Transport.

The ten ports which lie along the terminal portion of the Saigon River have been earmarked for relocation and transformation in use.

Ports with the largest area in the group include Ben Nghe Port, Vietnam International Container Terminals (VICT) Port, and Saigon Port, which boasts enormous economic significance and has existed since the French colonial epoch.

One of the four current components of Saigon Port– Tan Thuan Wharf, in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City – will be placed by 2020 in Hiep Phuoc, a zone of the outlying district of Nha Be, to ease the building of one out of three future bridges over the Saigon River – Thu Thiem 4 Bridge.

The remaining nine ports either continue their operation without physical expansion and are subject to relocation after 2020; or have their activity ceased when the land lease contracts expire.

The government attaches the prime importance the to-be-built Hiep Phuoc Port, along Soai Rap River of Nha Be District, considering it as Ho Chi Minh City’s chief port in the foreseeable future.

This location is expected to handle cargo ships with a carry capacity of 50,000 metric tons (in technical parlance, 50,000 DWT-Dead Weight Tonnage) or container ships with up to 4,000 TEU, where TEU stands for Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, inexactly equal to the volume of a twenty-foot-long container.

Several specialized wharfs will be constructed in the proximity of industrial facilities.

The above scheme is part of the detailed planning which has been approved by Vietnam’s Ministry of Transport regarding the formation of an inter-regional hub of ports in the southeast of the country by 2020, with a vision up to 2030.

This center is scheduled to consist of four main ports in Ho Chi Minh City and its nearby provinces of Dong Nai, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Binh Duong and Long An.

The port complex in Ho Chi Minh City, playing a paramount role, will have wharfs along the Saigon River; Dong Nai River; Nha Be River; and Soai Rap River, which is joined by the Saigon and empties into East Vietnam Sea.

The future ports in the hub are arranged in a configuration conducive to the evenness in their paces of growth and to collective efficiency.

Another goal is reduce traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City’s downtown by diverting the flow of freight away from the metropolis.

A priority in investment by 2020 is on Cat Lai Port, in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City, one of Vietnam’s largest and most modern ports, and on transport routes linked to this location.

Errrm not really lah, those that wants a foreign passport to stay in that particular land are normally those working ladies so that they do not need to worry when working, that is why a lot of past cases of such arranged marriages (with no consummation) then divorce later when they get their PR liao ;) while the case study in question is a normal OL and not WL, but it is correct they always jump at any such chances as Sinkieland is always thought to be paved with gold and rich husbands that can offer them a much better life than back in Wetnam :cool:

Anyway I am not cuntplaining or else people like us will die lonely and deprived if I need to look towards normal Sinkie ladies.......:o

Vietnam organizes state funeral for former premier Phan Van Khai

A state funeral is scheduled to be held for former Vietnamese Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on two days, during which his body will be laid out at the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh City.

The formal ceremony has been announced by the Central Party Committee, National Assembly, state president, central government, and Fatherland Front.

It is scheduled to be held on March 20 and 21, during which the body of former PM Khai will be kept at the Reunification Palace in Ho Chi Minh City.

Local residents are able to attend the funeral from 8:00 am on March 20 until the end of March 21.

A similar ceremony will also be organized at the International Convention Center in Hanoi during the period.

At 7:30 am on March 22, the celebration of life will be carried out in both cities, which will also be aired on Vietnam Television and Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

The burial ritual will be conducted at PM Khai’s hometown cemetery in Tan Thong Hoi Commune, Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City at 11:00 am on the same day.

Flags will fly at half-mast, and entertainment activities will be halted across the country during the two-day state funeral.

A 33-member funeral committee will be established and led by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong.

Khai passed away due to sickness at his home in Cu Chi District at 1:30 am on March 17.

He was born on December 25, 1933 and was the country’s head of government for two consecutive tenures, from 1997 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2007.

However, he asked the National Assembly for approval to resign from his post in 2006.

He was previously the deputy prime minister during 1992-97 and chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee from 1985 to 1989.

The Party and state presented PM Khai with the Golden Star Order and the 55-year Party Membership Badge in 2014, in recognition of his dedications to the country's revolutionary cause.
