Vietnam still Public Holiday today...Public services and corporates closed since last Saturday, 30/4 to 3/5...:)

HCM has less traffic since last Saturday...many had went home or gone holidays..:)

I had decided to postpone my trip to Nui Cam, Chao Doc, An Giang because I knew the roads will be full of traffic heading to provinces...:)

a vb told me the ferry crossing took 2.5hrs from LX to Cho Moi An Giang...years ago I was stuck for 2hrs and my whole journey took me 9 hours to reach hcm...only if assume no other accident or incidents on road...:)

Authorities in Hanoi said on Friday they will punish an electronics store for inappropriately promoting its business with women in swimwear.

To Van Dong, head of the city’s culture department, told local media that managers of Tran Anh Electronics Supermarket have been ordered to report on the case.

He said inspectors will also look into other promotional campaigns and advertisements of the company.

After many people were upset by the controversial appearances of a group of women in bikinis at the shop on Thursday, the managers claimed that they were only filming "sex education videos."

In an interview with Thanh Nien on Friday morning, Ngo Thanh Dat, marketing manager at Tran Anh, denied allegations that this was a promotional ploy to attract the male gaze and lure in customers.
He insisted that rival companies were trying to "defame" his store and that his company had good intention.

“Young Vietnamese people have not been provided with appropriate sex education... so we want to make a series of sex education videos,” said Dat.
The manager did not elaborate on the content of the series and in what way the women in bikinis can teach young people about safe sex practices.
In several videos posted on YouTube and dozens of photos online, the women can be seen helping a customer park his motorbike and standing and waving next to products.

Lawyer Nguyen Thach Thao said the promotional campaign may have violated the Law on Advertising, which prohibits advertisements and acts that are deemed offensive in the Vietnamese culture.

111 die in traffic accidents during 4-day holiday

A total of 152 traffic accidents left 111 people dead and 138 others injured during the four-day Reunification Day-Labor Day holiday, according to official figures.

The figures were slightly down from last year holiday when 116 people were killed and 149 were injured.

This year, May 3 saw the highest number of accidents, 60, in which 41 people died. It was the last day and many people were returning home after the vacation.

It included four fatalities and six injuries after a 16-seat bus collided with two trucks in the central province of Quang Ngai.

On May 2 a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in the Central Highlands province of Dak Nong claimed three lives.

Traffic police officers nationwide pulled over nearly 114,000 vehicles and slapped them with fines of VND4.6 billion (US$206,300).

They also held 53 cars and 1,928 motorbikes and revoked the driving licenses of 390 people.

According to official statistics, on average, traffic accidents kill 24 people daily. Vietnam now has nearly 2.75 million cars and 45 million motorbikes.

Vietnam eases liquid restriction for domestic flights

Passengers traveling within Vietnam are now permitted to take on board an unlimited volume of liquids and gels as the country has eased its restriction.

Under a new circular issued by the transport ministry that went into effect on May 1, passengers on domestic flights are allowed to bring liquids, aerosols and gels in their carry-on luggage with no limitation on volume and container size.

Passengers of course will still have to abide by airlines' regulations on cabin luggage size.

The liquid restriction remains unchanged for international flights. Passengers to and from outside Vietnam are allowed to carry no more than one liter of liquids, aerosols and gels in total in their carry-on luggage, with each of their containers no larger than 100 ml.

The limit is not applied to baby formula and food for children who fly with their parents, nor to prescription medicine.

Quick question about something quite speciific, hoping someone here knows.

A friend of mine (he's visiting from overseas, used to live here) went into Blue Massage on Nguyen Thi Thap a couple nights ago. He opted for the VIP massage at 200. After his massage was underway, girl made offer for BJ but for 500. ( :eek: ) My understanding was that this place (and others on NTT) would do that for tip of about 200. Has anyone tried this particular place? What is the going rate for BJ there?

Cultural authorities in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday said they have imposed a fine of VND22.5 million (US$1,000) against an up-and-coming model for competing in this year's cycle of "Asia's Next Top Model" in Singapore without permission.

Earlier they also banned Ngo Quynh Mai, 21, from a fashion show on April 24, just hours before it began. It is not immediately clear how long that ban will last.

Officials said she did not report to the culture department after being asked to three times. She was eliminated in March in the show's third episode.
According to Vietnam's official rules, those who want to compete in beauty competitions abroad must have at least one national title and must secure permission from the Ministry of Culture and Information.

Mai told local media that she did not know that the rule also applies to a non-professional model, which she claimed was her status when she entered the reality TV show earlier this year.

"I accept the fine, but that is a lot of money for a new model like me," Mai said, adding that it is equal to around four months of her income.

Mai, a former dancer, had earlier competed at several contests in Vietnam, including Miss Universe Vietnam 2015 and also the Vietnamese version of "So You Think You Can Dance." She did not win any titles.

More than a dozen of models and beauties have been fined over the past two years for competing overseas without approval, local media reported.

A proposal to build a VND5.8 trillion (US$257 million) airport near Sa Pa has been backed by several ministries, and work is set to start in the third quarter once it receives government approval.

The 261-hectare airport will have a terminal and space to park two Airbus A320s or other similar aircraft, according to a proposal by the northern province of Lao Cai, home to the popular tourist town.

It will be able to handle 560,000 passengers and 600 tons of cargo a year in its first stage before being expanded to thrice that size after 2030.

The airport is expected to handle flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Nghe An Province in the central region, and the northern city of Hai Phong.

Lao Cai has sought approval to sign up real estate conglomerate Sun Group for developing most of the airport’s infrastructure under a build-transfer agreement, news website Saigon Times Online said Monday.

Private developers signing a built-transfer agreement with the government normally get lands worth a certain value for other projects.

But Sun Group, which has expressed interest in several public infrastructure works, wants instead to operate some of the airport’s infrastructure like the terminal and fuel storage for an agreed time, according to the website.

Vietnam has 22 airports, but only Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City and Noi Bai in Hanoi are profitable, the country's sole airports manager, Airports Corporation of Vietnam, reported last year.

Under a national aviation plan approved seven years ago, Vietnam will have 26 airports, including 10 international ones, by 2020. The government also plans to build several small airports for helicopters and short-haul air

Hanoi authorities are considering a fine against a restaurant for putting women in swimwear to serve drinks to customers after several photos of the waitresses went viral.

To Van Dong, director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said his agency will announce a strong punitive measure, adding that the act was “against Vietnam's traditional culture and fine customs."

Images of the waitresses at the restaurant on Tran Thai Tong Street spread on social networks early this week. The waitresses can be seen serving beer and sitting next to the customers. The photos are believed to be taken on Sunday.

Lam, the restaurant manager, confirmed that the photos had been taken at his restaurant.

However, he claimed that the women were hired by Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage JSC (Sabeco) to promote and boost sales of its own products.
He said most of the so-called "promotion girls" were wearing formal clothes except for a few.

“The ones in bikinis were here for only one or two minutes. We asked them to cancel the promotional campaign after seeing how they were dressed,” he said.

Truong Van Tuan, director of Sabeco’s northern branch, rejected the claim, saying his company had never run such a campaign at the restaurant.

Earlier on May 6, Hanoi cultural inspectors issued a fine of VND40 million (US$1,795) against an electronics store for using women in swimwear to promote its business.

The managers of Tran Anh electronics store claimed that they were only filming "sex education videos."

The Vietnamese government is considering a new airport in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau, according to a national plan for transport infrastructure development by 2020.

The domestic airport will be located on Go Gang Island, about three kilometers off the beach town of Vung Tau, local media reported, citing the plan.

With a designed capacity of 100,000 passengers and 500 tons of goods a year, the airport will be specific for helicopters and small planes which operate on short routes such as those connecting oil rigs, besides tourist trips.

Under the plan, the government also designates Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to continue to serve as the southern region's hub, even though Long Thanh Airport in the nearby province of Dong Nai will replace it as the country's biggest airport.

Tan Son Nhat will be expanded to serve 25-26 million passengers and 1 million ton of goods a year, according to the plan.

Last month the transport ministry approved VND6.4 trillion (US$283.12 million) project to expand the airport, which has been operating far above its capacity of 20 million passengers a year since 2013.

On the other hand, Long Thanh Airport is slated to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of goods a year during its first stage.

According to the latest official estimates, the construction of Long Thanh's first stage will start some time between 2018 and 2019, at a cost of US$15.8 billion.

Police in Bac Lieu Province have arrested a primary school principal for allegedly molesting two girls studying in his school.

An officer said Nguyen Van Toan, 46, would be held for three months.

Police said there is evidence of Toan molesting seven students multiple times.

They looked into the case after the parents of two victims, both 11, lodged complaints.

One of the mothers said her daughter, identified only as T., was molested on April 25.

A video shot by her classmate, also a victim, shows Toan pull T. into the school’s toilet and hold her tightly. She tries to run but he pulls her back and touches her inappropriately, it shows.

T.’s mother said the girl has become affected. “She seems worried all the time and stays away from everyone.”

The mother said many people from Toan’s family have come to her house to apologize and offer compensation, but her family turned it down.

“We cannot tolerate his act. We cannot let it go.”

In Vietnam, more than 8,200 cases of child abuse came to light between 2011 and 2015, including 5,300 cases of sexual abuse, according to official figures released last March.

In most cases the perpetrators were people having authority over the children, like teachers, school security guards and even fathers.
