Staying on the Sembawang location, there is one reasonably priced and good tze char stand alone shop (Happy Village) at Jalan Malu Malu, Singapore 752106. One of the best Salted Fish Fried Rice ever! Not overly salty and oily. Shiok! :D

Meet Jimmy Teo, the chef who is helming Meet 4 Meat’s kitchen. Chef Jimmy has worked in various restaurants and steakhouses in both Australia and Singapore for the past 20 years. Most notably, he was the chef of Wooloomooloo Steakhouse at Swissôtel. Gerald, who is Chef Jimmy’s partner in this venture, decided to team up with him to make gourmet steak dishes more readily available and affordable to Singaporeans.

At just $27.00, the Beef Wellington comes as a 180-gram tenderloin coated in a red wine mushroom duxelle (finely chopped) and wrapped in a puff pastry shell. Chef Jimmy adds a piece of pan seared foie gras into the Wellington as well. This is a non-traditional inclusion. He slices the Wellington down the middle to reveal the pink beef in the centre. As with most tenderloins, the meat had less marbling (fat content) but remained deliciously tender and juicy. However, some might find that the beef is too rare for their liking. As Chef Jimmy told us that this is how it is normally served, I suggest you request for more doneness if you do not like your beef too rare.

We (meaning consumers) cannot always expect hawkers to be working in conditions of staggering heat, long hours, and still have to sell their food below a certain price, say $4 to $5.

Therefore, I hope that Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodles can become successful.

The stall which I go to occasionally at Amoy Street Food Centre Hawker selling fish ball and minced pork noodles, has opened a full-fledged shop at Lorong Telok (near Boat Quay).

This is helmed 2nd generation hawker Gilbert Lim (and other business partners) who has been described as “Hawker Hunk” by MissTamChiak (who took a brilliant photo of him cooking noodles, defined biceps and all).

However, as I usually visit Amoy during night time or Saturday mornings, I always tried the elder Uncle Lim’s version. Both father and son have their fans.

Fit for a sultan it may not be, but gudeg is certainly the signature of the royal city of Yogyakarta. The sweet jackfruit stew is boiled for hours in coconut milk and palm sugar, making the fruit so soft and tender it falls apart with little chewing.
Other spices are thrown into the mix but teak leaves give it a brown coloring. Like nasi uduk, it is served with rice, boiled egg, chicken and crispy, fried beef skin.
