When I was very young (think 30 years ago), my dad used to dabao back hokkien prawn noodles for supper.

It's wrapped in banana leaves, but more uniquely, it's more greyish in colour and very nice.

Any bros know where to find this type of fried prawn noodles?

Not banana leaf. It's known as traditional Opeh (Areca) Leaf. Some stalls still using that but u need to order bigger servings. Small servings they will not wrap with Opeh leaf. Some traditional zi char restaurants also wrap their hor fan in opeh leaf too. One of them is fatty Weng at sim lim.
As for hokkien mee, last time block 347 AMK coffee shop got 1 stall sell using opeh leaf.

I just went to eat say seng tau kwa Pau last week in dunman food centre.

The standard hv drop alot.

The old Pau in joo chiat taste better.

Tau Kwa Pau @Dunman Food Center

Tau kwa pau (豆干包) is a Teochew/Peranakan snack (小吃) with a history of more than 50 years. It is a piece of fried bean curd tt's sliced horizontally in the middle & in the pocket is stuffed (till it overflows with) roughly-chopped fried fishcake, fried yam, braised egg (卤蛋) & cucumber. Braised gravy (卤汁) is then drizzled over the tau kwa pau before it is served with some homemade sweet & spicy chilli. Every mouthful of this tau kwa pau releases a burst of 😋flavours & textures. These days, it is rare to find stalls selling tau kwa pau. Say Seng Famous Tau Kwa Pau (生成著名豆干包) is perhaps the most famous stall selling this Teochew snack. It is believed to be the pioneer of tau kwa pau. Founded in 1959, it is now located at Dunman Food Ctr after it moved twice from its initial location in a corner coffee shop next to the intersection of East Coast Rd & Joo Chiat Rd. Although the standard of its tau kwa pau is a little off the high standard tt it used to be in its heyday, I feel tt the tau kwa pau at Say Seng today still packs quite a punch, esp. when eaten with the homemade sweet & spicy chilli & drizzled with a generous amt of braised gravy (卤汁)

As I walk to the Coffeeshop from my car, the intoxicating broth of the Hokkien Mee just direct me to the coffeeshop. The fried bean sprouts with cockles is crunchy(every chew got crackling sound). May Soo should come and try.

Big Street Singapore: Prata Bomb Filled With Salted Egg Waiting To Explode

Read more: http://sethlui.com/big-street-salted-egg-prata-bomb-singapore/#ixzz4E3sioR9U

There’s salted egg croissant, salted egg toast, salted yolk egg fish & chips and now Salted Egg Prata Bomb?!

Liu Sha is dominating the food scene with its unlikely food pairings, that are oh-so-yummy and oddly satisfying to watch them liu (flow) out.

I’m already excited to find out what’s the next crazy liu sha exploit in line — but for now think of a prata pouch waiting to burst open.

33962
3396333964

Upon walking into the restaurant, I saw at least three tables ordering the Salted Egg Prata Bomb.

With my expectations set high, I was a little sad to see that the prata is only slightly bigger than size of my palm, would have been great if it was bigger. However, the presentation was slightly fancier as compared to the other pratas on a white plate.

The salted egg prata bomb sat atop a stone plate, served with a slice of starfruit and strawberry, which isn’t just for decorations but as palette cleansers to help reset your taste bud from the richness of the salted egg yolk.

The salted egg had the viscosity of melted cheese, which was thicker and creamier than other liu sha I’ve tried. It was also in the right balance of salty and sweet, making it wonderfully delectable.

Generously filled, the prata was soaked completely in salted egg upon bursting, so you don’t have to worry scraping the surface of the plate desperately later to enjoy the last few mouthfuls.

The only downside was that the prata was understandably doughy in texture, so as to conceal the salted egg yolk without any chances of leaking. It could have been served hotter, so that the liu sha could be gooey to warm the tummy and soul.

An overall satisfying salted egg prata bomb experience. My verdict, if you haven’t yet tried it, go ahead and pop by Big Street. Could be your next supper spot for when you’re sick of having dim sum.

Expected Damage: $6 – $10 per pax

Chee Cheong Fun Club, Maxwell Food Centre

Interesting name....Chee Cheong Fun Club (#01-38 Maxwell Food Centre, 1 Kadayanallur Street). The proprietress is from Malaysia and what the shop does is allegedly Malaysian styled chee cheong fun. I get the curry rendition which was quite delicious. I had been initially comparing them to the rich and viscous Peranakan variety that I grew up with but this wasn't that. Still tasty and a nice eat with the fried bean curd goods and meatball. Watch out for those crispy fried hae bi.

We (meaning consumers) cannot always expect hawkers to be working in conditions of staggering heat, long hours, and still have to sell their food below a certain price, say $4 to $5.

Therefore, I hope that Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodles can become successful.

The stall which I go to occasionally at Amoy Street Food Centre Hawker selling fish ball and minced pork noodles, has opened a full-fledged shop at Lorong Telok (near Boat Quay).

This is helmed 2nd generation hawker Gilbert Lim (and other business partners) who has been described as “Hawker Hunk” by MissTamChiak (who took a brilliant photo of him cooking noodles, defined biceps and all).

However, as I usually visit Amoy during night time or Saturday mornings, I always tried the elder Uncle Lim’s version. Both father and son have their fans.

Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodle Bar – Famous Amoy Street Food Centre BCM Stall Opens Restaurant Near Boat Quay

We (meaning consumers) cannot always expect hawkers to be working in conditions of staggering heat, long hours, and still have to sell their food below a certain price, say $4 to $5.

Therefore, I hope that Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodles can become successful.

Time to talk about Yang's Epok Epok

To a connoisseur, the curry puff, kali pap, baked curry puff and epok epok mean different things.

A curry puff is what local snack chains dish out, and it is also sold by Chinese hawkers.

Kali pap is the triangular crusty-edged version you see at Indian snack and kopi stalls.

The baked curry puff is much like a croissant stuffed with potatoes, egg and chicken.

Epok epok is what I am gushing about today, the humble Malay-style one that you find at almost every hawker centre or Malay snack stall.

When I first saw the version at Yang's Epok Epok, I knew what it would taste like - just by the look of the crust.

many others here would rate this place to offer the best #prawnnoodles.
They are good and that's for sure. Prawns are fresh, soup stock is good and noodles are cooked well. However, I noticed the dried noodles are not as heavily-sauced as before.
Prices are according to the number of prawns, types of prawns and pork ingredients of your choice. Note that ordering big does not equate more noodles!
Seriously, unless you must have big or jumbo prawns (which they will try to upsell you anyway), the smaller prawns will be sufficient (and more economical as well).
Add on noodles for $0.50 more if you have a good appetite.
Their key money spinner will still be the Ngoh Hiang 五香灌肠 which is supposed to complement the noodles but end up being their profit center anyhow. Price per piece range from $1 to $2.20...
Best thing about this place now is you do not need to wait long. Noodles and Ngoh Hiang are served within 10min even for a Saturday noon so unlike before.
Drinks go for $1.40.
Overall, still a good place for a good bowl of prawn noodles despite being in the trade for so long. Unless you must have the big prawns, the small prawns will be good enough. Add noodles at your discretion.

This one also not bad.
