Day 1 - 11am

After a quick shave at our manly barber shop which cost a mere (S$0.90); me and Mr H (director H88) walk toward our hotel. And at the lobby sit 2 ladies; Mr H's darling and my queen of Heart.


My Queen is a bit shy after not seeing me for past 2 months; but after some eye contact and body language thing start to warm up nicely.

As a man; some showering of small gifts are not a request but I believe it should be a requirement. I saw her with her huge backpack full of travelling gears and that signal she will accompany me till the time we travel to the Romantic Da Lat. I am 100% SURE Bro's H-88 & MIFA had roaming hands ( and legs) under the blanket the entire 8 hours in the bus :p That said, I like Viet airports as there is plenty of beer to while away the time & HCMC airport is well organized and not far from town . Not true, I can show you plenty of hotels in Q1 around the VND250-350k/night mark that are not run down at all. Very cosy and away in alleys from major streets. And I dont mean the druggie/dodgy Pham Ngu Lao / Bui Vien quarter.

I had arrived HCM for 2 days. Spend times with my bxa and also brought her to 1 place for massage which is good for couples. This place was recommended by a senior here. Although it a bit expensive, damage (750K + 100K Tips), it had good facilties. We are guide to a room exculsive for us. Inside the room have a small jacuzzi, Suana Room and steam bath.

Actually, you can bath and make love together in the jacuzzi. The massage provide is good too. Basically quite happy with their service. There are cheaper packages. The menu provide are also in English.

I think the return ticket from HCMC to Da Lat is 2m Dong++.

The flight transfer timing is hell. Although it is 50 min flight from HCMC to Da Lat; I saw the time between the flight transfer to be 6 and 10 hours respectively.

Imagine reaching HCM city at 10 pm and the transfer flight is 8am in the morning.

It do not make any sense to fly to Da Lat from Singapore.

PS: Anyway we just reach hotel after 8 hr 30 min of bus ride. Although tired; but we brought back some good memory.

Guess u have not been to HCMC too long.... There a lot good decent hotels which are less than USD 30 in D1, not run down at all, better than hotel 81 in Geylang :D I used to stay in decent hotel for less than USD 20.

I will not trade in the bus ride for flight...just doesn't make economic sense to pay 5mil plus compared to 880k for 2 pax return...on the way we saw many nice scenery which have no chance to see in both sinkie and malai lands...the sleeping seat coach is good enough to sleep..although I cannot sleep during travel..:)

every year i will travel once out of hcm which the experience is priceless...hehe...let the various bros post their experiences...:)

next year planning Danang, Hoi An, Hue...hehe....:)

I will try to fly else I will suffer a lot the whole trip. Like now, ask me go HCMC, I a bit reluctant, 6 hours bus ride and if there is a delay of an hour or 2 in ferry crossing, I will cry the whole trip. To save a few hundreds but to suffer the whole trip, I rather dun go.

1) Most of the 5 stars hotel are not girl friendly

2) So far i've been staying in the 3 stars hotels in Dist 1, Japanese area. Girl friendly and very clean and quite good. Only difference from the 5 stars are:
- room smaller
- no swimming pool
- no decent restaurants
My current favourite is Silverland Hotel and Spa. Booked from Agoda and sometimes the price is higher depending on your luck when you book.
Asian Ruby is also not bad.

3) Apocalypse is a good place for disco and pick up joint - reasonable price for the booze there

5) Fantastic roast piglet: Lang Nuong Nam Bo, 285/C145 Cach Mang Thang 8, ward 12, Dist 10 - the food there very good almost full house every night

6) Vien Dong Hotel: Good massage packages
- normal head/foot, etc
- private room with bathtub: what they do inside? Go and check it out yourself. Don't want to spoil it for you. BTW just remember for tips locals usually give about 300K. they will ask for more if its foreigner.
- haven't been there for a couple of years. not sure is it still there. check online before you go.

- 4 hours train ride from hcmc
- long stretch of beautiful beaches which are not as crowded as Danang

Very near to the riverside, about 10 mins walk. Go to agoda, search for hotels in HCMC, filter by Japanese area, choose any hotel and look at the map there.

Good location and the hotels there charge decent prices and gal friendly.

Some additional info for those new to HCMC and planning to make a trip there:

1) After exiting the airport luggage area, there's a row of stalls providing taxi, money changing, limousine and local tour services. Go to the extreme right side and there's a mailinh taxi booth. tell them the address and buy a taxi ticket there. they will then bring you to the taxi boarding area. If mailinh is closed, the next 1 i normally go to is the saigon tourist taxi. Buying the ticket there and then getting a taxi is faster. if you go straight out and try to get a taxi, need to wait quite long especially during peak hours.

2) Most taxi driver speaks little english and thus safer to write or print out the destination address in vietnamese. Get the hotel business card and show it to them when going back hotel. Cos the way you pronounce their word is very different from the way they pronounce.

3) For tips to hotel staff, about 20 - 50K is good. This amount is nothing to us but they will give you better service if you need help.

So we went for coffee, at mifa, the cafe sua da was only 10k (actually the coffee and milk was extra call it a hidden charge, because if i told u the total price of 35k, then it wouldnt seem as exciting a story) When he asked me to tip her 20k, she gave it back to him as start crying as she was so touched that MC tipped her. He told me he never need to tip, so by tipping her she felt special.

Next we went try some chao long, it cost only 15k (mc chose the cheapest option just have chao no long, that way i can FR that we go a really localised meal for so cheap, if we had got teh special for 23k, then it wouldnt seem so impressive)

Before I ask for any info, I thought I'd share an experience from my last trip.

The last time I went, I was with a friend who had been once before, and also did some homework prior to going up. Me, not having gone before, was brought around by him. So we landed on Friday night, and went out to town to have some food, and went back to rest.

So the next morning, we went out to a barber place to 'cut our hair'. We went in to the barber shop to cut our hair, went for lunch, and went for another haircut (hair very long). At night, we went out to have a drink at HBT. We went into a bar, and being very unsure if it was the right kinda bar we were in, we took a seat and the waitress asked if we wanted a drink. Seems harmless, lots of girls around and I looked into the backroom from where we were sitting and I saw this very attractive Viet girl. I decided to sit around a while more to confirm that it is the right kinda bar and also to see if there were any other girls around. After chilling out for a while, I was ready to make my selection when a bunch of Jap dudes walked in and the waitress called for roll call. Then I see the girl that caught my eye earlier walking out and to meet the new crew.

LESSON LEARNT - Go in, if see what you like, pick what you like. Don't waste time, or hesitate.

Next day, cut hair 2 more times and went back to Singapore.

Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister on Monday ordered three district police chiefs in Ho Chi Minh City, the northern city of Hai Phong and Nam Dinh Province to be censured for their loose control over prostitution in their localities.

Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is also chairman of the National Committee for Fighting AIDS, Drug Operations and Prostitution, said during a meeting that HCMC’s Binh Thanh District, together with the coastal district of Do Son in Hai Phong, and Quat Lam beach town in Nam Dinh’s Giao Thuy District represent hot spots of Vietnam’s sex industry.

He said while prostitution in those areas has grown into a “public annoyance,” official reports never singled them out.

“Reports keep being too general. Aren’t even the police aware of such big and wide open operations?” he asked.

He ordered local authorities to make prostitution a focus in their agenda, and to designate specific assignments for highly affected areas.

Nguyen Manh Hung, vice chairman of the Committee for Social Issues, also blasted the vague reports.

“We have only one statement every year, every time: ‘Prostitution continues to develop complicatedly.’ Issuing the statement has become a tradition.”

Pham Ngoc Dung, deputy head of the prostitution prevention desk at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, drew serious criticism after saying at a meeting on June 13 that no sex trade activities had been detected recently in Do Son and Quat Lam.
Local officials said they have never made such reports while local residents said they have almost memorized the routine of sex workers in the area.

Officials at the Monday conference also referred to recent media reports as showing that prostitution recently evolved into a luxury service; that sex workers are no longer just those desperate for income, but also include models who target high-income customers or students who want better-paying part-time jobs.

Many of the sex workers are men, while some operations are designed especially for foreigners – issues that current laws fail to address.

Under Vietnamese law, sex workers are fined VND300,000 (US$14) for their first offence, and VND5 million for subsequent offences.

But many have stayed with the job which, according to a labor ministry report released March last year, earns females an average of VND10.6 million ($505) a month and VND6.55 million ($312) for male prostitutes.

Vietnam’s per capita income was $1,555 in 2012.

Ho Chi Minh City to have four cities under new master plan

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has built a new urban administration model for the city. If approved by the National Assembly within this year, the new model will be applied in 2016. Accordingly, the city will be re-organized to have four satellite cities revolving around a central area that is comprised of 13 districts.
On August 7, the City Party Committee organized an extraordinary conference to discuss the project to build a new urban administration model that has been prepared in the past six years. The objective of the project is to build a new administrative apparatus that is professional, simplified and effective.

Participants agreed that HCMC is a large city comprising 19 urban and 5 rural districts, with a total population of more than 8 million. The city has continuously grown in every aspect and become an economic, cultural, scientific and technical hub in southern Vietnam and the country at large.

However, the city’s current administration model has exposed many weaknesses, failing to meet the city’s needs for development and management in the long run. Therefore, since 2007, after getting permission from the Politburo, HCMC began to prepare a project for a new model of urban administration.

Under the new model, the city will be re-organized to have four satellite cities revolving around a central area that is comprised of 13 districts. They will be governed by two levels of administration: the centrally-run municipal and grassroots governments, instead of three levels as present.

After getting approval of the Government and permission of the National Assembly (NA), the city will prepare a plan of organizational and HR plan that specifies power, functions and duties of the government levels under the new model. The city will collect public opinions to perfect the project by 2015 so that it can be applied in 2016.

To this end, the NA Delegation of HCMC has sent a statement to the NA Standing Committee proposing that the NA issue a resolution to allow the city to apply the new urban administration model on a pilot basis.

Four cities plus a 13-district central area

Under the new model, the city will have four satellite cities revolving around a central area that is comprised of 13 current districts.

The administration apparatus of every district will be called Administrative Committee that is headed by a District Administrative Committee Chairman or Chief District. Meanwhile, every satellite city will be governed by City People’s Committee headed by a Chairman or Major.

The 13 districts include Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, and Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Tan Binh and Tan Phu Districts; and the four cities will be the East, West, South and North.

The East City will comprise Districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc District, with a total area of 211 square kilometers. It will be adjacent to the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway and its central quarter will be Thu Thiem new urban area. The city will develop high-class services (including finance and credit), high tech industries, ecological tourism and others.

The West City will consist of the entire Binh Tan District, parts of Wards 7 and 16 of District 8, and four communes of Binh Chanh District, including An Phu Tay, Tan Kien, Vinh Loc A, Vinh Loc B. This city’s center will be Tan Kien urban area that is contiguous to National Highway 1. The city, with an area of 109 square kilometers and a population of 810,000, will focus on service industries, industrial parks, and new residential areas.

The South City will include District 7, Nha Be District, a part of Ward 7 of District 8, and two communes – Binh Hung and Phong Phu – of Binh Chanh District. Covering 169 square kilometers and having 470,000 residents, the city will take the South Saigon urban area, including the Phu My Hung urban area, as its core. This city’s economy will center on industries and port services.

The North City will comprise District 12 and Hoc Mon District, with a total area of 162 square kilometers and a population of 860,000 people. The city, with its core being Tan Thoi Nhi commune area, will build a service-based economy, ecological tourism, high-tech agriculture, and new residential areas.

These FDI businesses defaulted on employee wages and payments with partners, and have evaded taxes. Some even mobilized capital from their Vietnamese partners and illegally transferred it to their home countries, causing huge economic damage.

The planning ministry thus urged amendments to the foreign investment laws, saying it is necessary to have foreign investors pay a deposit before they are granted land plots or investment licenses.

It also asked local governments to assist laborers who are now unemployed due to the runaway foreign investors.

There are many here which are definitely better than the others here , we are here to have fun and learn of fun places , not to compare wealth nor dick size. If the other is affecting your biz operdus then just say openly , don't beat around the bush throwing rotten eggs at each other.

Wanna compare wealth , there are probably many blokes here which was way wealthier than a mere pawnshop owner in HCMC . We do not need to boast how high class places they can go , everyone reading is probably more interested in knowing the culture of Vietnam and its people via social interaction. And best if it is kept value for money as to not spoil the market.

In hcmc , it doesn't matter if you are short , fat or ugly or even if you look like brat Pitt if you don't know the language nor places , you can't get anything done. That's my experience , I never had a problem in sg in terms of that but I had problems in HCMC . Of course I don't claim to be an adornis or Hercules but I am a normal fat joe which hopes to enjoy his trip in Vietnam .

Everytime it has to end with I can afford to go this place and that place end up all cheapo where spending won't even go over 5k sgd , I have seen and gone to places where people burnt more than 15k sgd merely on tips for night clubs where you can bring back any one from various nationality some times even porn stars. So please , let's keep the sharings to relevant stuff and don't come and act high class or low class when you are not even there yet.

Firstly, many thanks for seniors taking time off to meet up, namely mutantchicken, skyfree and volcano. Just back from Vietnam, will write FR basis the “sammyboy” part only; will leave the cultural part other time 

“Sammyboy”, Day 1
Arrived hcmc evening in district1, and went to ben thanh market to change dongs (rate: 16,750/sgd, higher than airport & sillypore). Managed to contact MC, who was unfortunately unavailable, so decided to have pho at ben thanh and solo DN hotel for mp (I learnt that the damage is about 300k+300k tips= 600k total with pretty ladies). Just as I was about to go, volcano replied to pm & contacted me and came over to benthanh with his bike. Told him what I like and he suggested 2 places offering vip room (private attention from the massage lady with no moans from fellow cheongsters), and laid down the prices for me to choose, excluding tips:
-option 1: 300k, vip room somewhere near D5/D7
-option 2: 500k, vip room, not sure where it is

Though he recommends option 2 for better experience, no offense to bro volcano, but I went for option 1 since I don’t want the more expensive option (which incl tips, will be abt same price as in sillypore) especially when it was my first time in hcmc and had to pay

Arrived at the mp, entrance looks like a typical Chinese restaurant, no tables, but neon lights flashing brightly. With the recent crackdown, it somewhat looked like an oasis – got hard and excited thinking about it.
Took a lift to the 3rd floor (blood flowing to the other head alrdy, can’t rmbr which floor), and entered a private room with a table, a tub & a private sauna room. Room was ok, not posh but clean. A young lady walked in, slim and tall, pony tailed hair with 6-7 looks. Ladies there all wore the same white green, body hugging attire, and a revealing short grass green skirt, almost showing her tight ass. I quickly undressed & finished suana, walked into the bath tub where she washed me up pretty ok. I dried up and went to the table for massage. Massage was piano playing & pinching, nothing exciting. Oh yes, and also to add, on my last day in Vietnam, went back to hcmc to catch up the flight back the nxt morning. As I heard that benny has reopen, decided to head there and check it out. Back to Singapore on 12th but busy at work till today. Apologise to those bros who had PM me. I don't want recommend the massage palor cos my BXA friends had stop working there. Maybe by end of this year I will go there again but by flight. I wanna to go those island I had not been and waterfall. Anyone bros try by air to Nha Trang before. I heard even by Air, I still need to take a 1 hour taxi journey to Nha Trang?? Anyone can confirm?

the airport is at Cam Ranh which is 30 mins from Nha Trang City...just hop on to any taxi which dun operate on meter and nego...should pay around 380K VND...or take the airport bus to Nha Trang...:)

Quoc Te airport taxi shd be 250k(mar 2013) 30-45mins trip.
Vietjet air flight timing sucks.
Islands tours are ok, but you shd check out different agents as same tour, different rates.

My opinion: Good place to visit once, but not twice.

yes those small island is fantastic..me and my friends in a group of 3 couple ever went there,reach there by a small boat and sit on the shore of the beach..order some prawns and 5kg of sotong for BBQ..yes..5kg,initially i thought we cant finish as its a hot afternoon..but i was so strong,out came our tops and we were sitting there emjoying chilled beer with BBQ seafood under the cooling wind..the sotong was finished in no time..wanted to order more but its sold out..:(

overall its a good place to chill n relax..definately should go...:)

Islands tours are ok, but you shd check out different agents as same tour, different rates.

I bought the 4-Islands tour package from SinhTourist of 120kvnd for each pax. Seems quite a good deal. Include a simple lunch onboard the boat :)

agreed with you that Phan Thiet or Mui Ne beach is better than Vung Tau but Vung Tau beach still anyhow better than any of Singapore beaches...also only 2 hrs by hydrofoil you can get there from hcm...dun need much time to travel...if you want better beaches then Nha Trang, Phuoc Quoc or Danang beaches will be better...:)

Vung Tau serves as a short getaway from hcm and the place is less crowded and less traffic...good if you have gf as companion...:)

if anyone want a good beach in Nha Trang stay at Vinpearl resort...be prepared to pay 6 star price...can google to check how beautiful the place is...:)
