The protests have certainly gave Thailand bad publicity. It is supposed to be high season in Thailand. I was in Pattaya, most pubs owners were quite disappointed with the crowd turn out and they knew the reason.

But don't think this protest period can last too long. The pay out for each protester is 2000 bahts per day, as compared to the 2008, yellow was about 600+ bahts per day, red was 200+ per day.

You only can claim flight delay, for every six hours delay there's an amount of compensation, depending on your premium on the insurance itself.

I can say most of the insurance companies doesn't cover for civil riots. Right now Bkk is having civil riots.

On the other side, after 08 airport occupation, I seriously doubt they can/able to seize the airport again.

Certainly the travel advisories issued by all the governments has affected travel but I think not too much. Many tour agents & airlines didn't report many cancellations. Actually before the nonsense in Bangkok it's already been a slow year. Could be Europe & US still not full recovery yet?

if I'm not wrong can only claim one item from one insurer coz u can only submit the original bill one time.

People doing currency swaps for Thai baht up 20%.

SINGAPORE: Money changers at Golden Mile Complex have reported a 20 per cent increase in the number of people doing currency swaps for the Thai baht.

The complex is frequented by many Thais, and the increase comes as the value of the baht fell significantly against the Singapore dollar recently.

The money changers said Thai workers are also remitting money to their homeland in larger amounts, from 10,000 to 250,000 baht at one go.

Some shops said as a result of the political turmoil in Bangkok, prices of Thai products have also gone up by five per cent due to road closures in the capital impeding the export of items to Singapore.

However, Singaporeans are taking advantage of the exchange rate, as they continue heading to Thailand for their year-end vacation.

Malai, supervisor of a remittance agency, said: "What's happening is only in Bangkok. All the customers said they are going to the north of Thailand."

4 bomb attacks hit Songkhla's Sadao district

Sadao district in Songkhla province was rocked with four bomb attacks on Sunday but there was no reports of injuries.

This border district is adjacent to Malaysia’s Padang Besar of Peris state.

The first attack took place in front of Padang Besar police station in Sadao the same district while the second was at a parking space of Sadao police station. Initial investigation showed both attacks were caused by explosives hidden in motorcycles which were parked in the areas.

The third explosion was in front of Oliver Hotel at Ban Dan Nok while the fourth was in a soi near McDonald shop in the same area.

2 Malaysians and 20 Thais were injured in a series of blasts in the Thai border town of Danok, in Sadao district today.

The blast occurred some 1km from the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine Complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam in Padan Besar at 11.40am, reported Star Online.

Malaysian consul-general in Songkhla, Mohd Faizal Razali, confirmed that the two Malaysians were injured in the blast.

Global funds pulled $1.3 billion from Thai stocks last month, exchange data show. The central bank will review policy on Jan. 22 after official figures showed exports contracted for a third month in November.

“Portfolio flows will be affected given the ongoing political situation,” said Saktiandi Supaat, head of foreign-exchange research at Malayan Banking Bhd. in Singapore. “The question is whether the central bank is going to make any moves to ease policy.”

The slight drop in rate is due to SGD also weakening in the same period due to the article in NYT about Singapore facing a Iceland-style meltdown. Super rich is at 25.60 and 25.70 (1000 note). THB is still on the retreat due to the political turmoil, so not worthy of entering the market now. The slight drop in rate is due to SGD also weakening in the same period due to the article in NYT about Singapore facing a Iceland-style meltdown. It's knee-jerk and I expect SGD to cross 26.00 by next week.

Eventually will burst.
Will not happen so soon as long as Janet Allen adopt the almost zero Fed Funds Rate until 2017.

Just be as debt free as possible so you'll not be affected by sudden surge in interest rates.

For me I'll not convert all my money into Thai Baht.
You need to have a diversified basket of currencies to leverage risks.

As for this current political unrest it also means opportunity for some.
Those buying Thai property now using SGD to convert will laugh until peng san. :D

As for Singapore property there's an oversupply of new private properties until 2017!
Very hard to fetch good price if selling within these few years.

“We will most likely see continued fund outflows from Thailand and the baht is staying on a downward trend,” said Tsutomu Soma, manager of the fixed-income business unit at Rakuten Securities Inc in Tokyo. “There’s no clear picture of the protests ending or the situation improving, while we don’t even know if the elections can be held as scheduled.”

The baht dropped 0.3%, the most since Jan 15, to 32.967 per dollar as of 9.28am, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The currency has weakened 5.6% since the protests began on Oct 31. One-month implied volatility, a measure of expected moves in the exchange rate used to price options, fell two basis points, or 0.02 percentage point, to 7.2%.

Fourteen of 21 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg had expected the central bank to cut its policy rate by 25 basis points, while the rest forecast no change.

Is not a dumb question but when you going. Bkk rate will be a bit better but you not not changing a lot then no point. Baht may still drop I think so is up to you.
