More than make back the difference. Changing money costs money (aka margin), more so if withdrawing via another thai local bank ATM -ie cover 2 banks. Also, credit card charges are also never at favourable rates. Price of convenience..:cool:

Not really. The statement from the ATM actually show the exact SGD charged for the withdrawal, as well as your balance remaining in your account in SGD. Everything is clearly shown. So, all the additional cost is only the $5 admin charge. I did call up to check with UOB today, and the customer service verified this.:D

But one thing though, provided you have a UOB bank account in Sg, and only redraw from UOB Thai. Else, you will be charged for a double transaction between 2 banks, and the situation as mentioned by Bro SOul_Reaper & Bro YinYang will likely to happen. :eek:

Honestly how much diff does it make? It would save you all the hassle if you can go to the big money changer and they can deliver to you on the spot. You do have to "shop" around for the best rate though unless you have a regular money changer who will give u good rates.

So next time change at Spore bank $1K note before u come? Its the same with USD. There are different rates for U$50 and U$100 notes. This applies in Spore also but I never asked and understood why.

I was at the money changer at bugis junction (under escalator 1st floor) and the rate was 23.45 but guy inside told me he ran out (time was 7pm)

Then i went down to Golden Mile.. went to that forex changer end of the building and was quoted 23.38

Then i went to see one of the indian money changers facing outside and the best rate i could find was 23.44 so in the end i changed there

Just share my experience with the money changers in the vicinity of Bugis & North Bridge Rd. They displayed an attractive rate but when I told them that I needed Thai Baht, they replied that they have no stock. Forget about changing @ the above places, proceed to GM, Acrade or Chinatown will be a wise option. Cheers.

This SR has been referred on more than a few occassions for best rate bkk. Maybe more favourable than rest.. but be aware of the "catch" for BIG bucks (or 1k notes):cool::

General rule of thumb is departure places like Singapore (with no currency controls) forex is generally competitive or even marginally better than destination. My own onservations is that local sg rates (like GM or Arcade, not changi or other lousy spots) are slightly better than bkk most places. And I'm not benchmarking SR. But then, unless one overspends in LOS (not unusual). If under spent, well there's always the next trip or palm off to fellow kakis (not to your puying for safekeeping!)
And yes, unless you are a BIG spender or into big bucks -weigh your cost of running around, time and effort.

Just read that the thai baht had its sharpest drop since June on speculation that the thai king is pretty ill.

Their stock market index, SET, closed 5.3% down, after slumping as much as 8.3% in afternoon trade. Foreign investors are liquidating their positions and moving funds out of thailand causing the currency to slump. 24 looks a certainty in the days coming.

Well, even though i hope to enjoy a cheaper baht when i visit thailand, i also wish this King Bhumibol Adulyadej good health cos everyone in thailand reveres him a lot. Must be a very nice king. Deserves better health.

Super Rich quoted price is for 2 differrent denomination. I had thought it was a buy n sell spread all along. My mistake.

Today's rate for Sing dollar to baht. 23.95 small notes / 24.05 big notes.

I changed (6k)6 x S$1000 note n received 144,300 baht.
And change (3k) 60 x S$50 note n received 71,850 baht.

That means the baht had drop to above 24 against the Sing already since last week.

Good news for many bros/sis that is planning their holiday here and bad news for others working in thailand.
