4 more finals to play...history in the making...:)

Coutinho was really awesome. Putting in tackles, quick pressings, providing decent passes and having good runs. :)

Sturridge was desperate to prove his point to Manchester City. We have to now wait on his injury which appears to be a hamstring. :(

My heart went soft when I saw Gerrard in tears. He said to the players on the pitch once the final whistle was blown, "Now we go to Norwich and do the same !" :)

Today's win goes out to the 96. YNWA.

I was fearing the worst when City came back from 2 goals down to even the match. Thanks to Kompany cock up, we manage to make the most out of it by scoring the winner.

City can no longer do anything about the title as long we keep winning. I'm even more convince now that this year will be our year.

The sight of Stevie G gathering the players for a group hug follow by some encouraging words after the final whistle really touches me.

Come on you reds!!

Pool's Remaining fixtures: Norwich (Away), Chelsea (Home), Crystal Palace (Away), Newcastle United (Home)

ManC's Remaining fixtures: Sunderland (Home), West Brom (Home), Crystal Palace (Away), Everton (Away), Aston Villa (Home), West Ham (Home)

Chelsea's Remaining fixtures: Sunderland (Home), Liverpool (Away), Norwich (Home), Cardiff (Away)

Simple Algorithm: Pool win all their remaining ties, the title is theirs.

No margin of error for the Top 3 now. Whoever screws up in any one match will likely fall out of the title race.

Ironically our merseyside neighbors could have a big say in our title challenge.

Chelsea has tough run in with champion league semi final against AM...before playing Pool...both away game and home return leg for CL...their matches against Sunderland, Norwich and Cardiff facing relegation is also tough games...:)

Man City against Sunderland, west brom, crystal palace games also to easy because these team will park 10 defenders behind goal...:)

With SAS not scoring last nite, I think they will run riot against lower Norwich and crystal palace...sure chance to dribble past defenders and getting penalties...destiny is in our hands...the team has won nothing yet...so still one game at a time...go for clean sweep as what I had written before...:)

Kudos to CPT SG for calling huddle after last nite victory to give encouragement...:)

It seems likely Sturridge will miss the remainder of the season, although it is yet to be confirmed.

Henderson will sorely be missed. He has improved so much this season. Very dedicated and hard working. Always running in the games. Lucas looks like a replacement and there is Allen and Moses in the bench as well.

Looking forward to Rodgers' formation and starting line-up this weekend. :D

He could have easily signed for Manchester United, as the club gave him a trial when he was around 13 years old. Sir Alex tried to sign him again in 2002 and Chelsea made a move for him twice, in 2005 and 2006.

Think someone in here quoted what Martin Tyler said earlier in the season, "the team above Chelsea shall win the title" , looks like this Tyler prophesy is now turning out to be true.

Mourhino is an old hand at this game. I note he has already 'unleashed' Peter Cech to start playing the lame mind games war and it is prolly going to get much more dirty come next week.

His Chelsea is going to take the fight for the title to the end of wire, it has the strength in depth to do so, don't be fooled by the CL semis and I am sure Chelsea shall beat Sunderland this weekend.

Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard are doing the right thing at the moment, just concentrating on the next game at hand and looking no further. The focus now should be on getting 3 points at Carrow Road, nothing else matters for the time being.

Come on you Reds!

Chelsea will have to go out all for the 3 points and the pressure will be on them.

But before that, we must get the job done at Norwich first

I think it might be better to start him on the bench, letting him take a break... he has been super off form recently...

Any idea how many games is Henderson ban? Or is it automatically 3 matches?

My only fear is overwhelming pressure which could turn the toughest men into boys.

Over zealous players, in an effort to win matches, may overstretch, overrun, injuring themselves or make rash challenges, gettin themselves booked.

Juz look at the last match agt City last week. Henderson was unnecessarily red carded for a rash tackle. Suarez who was repeatedly frustrated n was obviously diving on a few occasions was lucky not to be sent off. Skrtel too, with another arm wrestling in box which could hv easily resulted in a penalty.

Gerard can't afford any yellow cards for the next 3 matches, critically the Norwich match. Suarez and Skrtel gotta maintain their discipline, they are on the refs' watchlist for sure.

I hope Pool can get a clean lead by HT agt Norwich tomor, afterwhich BR could give Gerrard, Cout, Raheem n/or Suarez a rest to prepare for the Chelsea game. Their presence hv never been more critical!

Can't wait for tomorr's big match!

Wah lau, of all team, who would expect a struggling Sunderland side to break Jose Mourinho 77-match unbeaten home run as a manager.

They nick 2 points off Man City and now grab all 3 points against Chelsea, really unbelievable.

I just hope our lads don't get lure into a false sense of security. Despite other team slip-up, nothing has change for us.

We still needs to win the game on our hands to make it counts. Anything less than 101% commitment & effort, we could easily be another victim of these shock result.

Looking at Norwich last four games, it's really a nightmare for them. With teams below closing up on them, they are now a side desperate for points.

Wonderful Sunderland, given Liverpool 6 pts and took vital pts off Chelsea and Man City.

To be fair, Liverpool must return the favor by beating Norwich to help Sunderland stay up.

After beating Norwich, Chelsea at home will be easy.
I believe JM will play a "B" team and concentrate on the CL.

With Chelsea dropping 3 pts...Man city is a threat again.

norwich r fighting against relegation ... dey wil try 2 muster as many points as dey can from their remaining matches ...

dey haf juz got a new manager ... which wil gif dem betta motivation ...

cellar team sunderland has juz shown dat nothing is impossible in bpl by ending mourinho's proud chelsea home record ...

norwich wil similarly make it a challenge 4 demselves 2 end pool's current unbeaten run ,,,

3 games to go. :D

Really don't understand about Liverpool's defense. Keep on making costly error. I almost had heart attack when I saw Skrtel make clearance backwards. Luckily it went out for a corner. :o

Well, this thread started 8 years ago and there has been a core group of about 20 guys here since day 1. For this core group of guys, I know we are all 8 years older now. Age is catching up so please take care of your heart while watching Liverpool. :D Watching Liverpool has always been like sitting in a roller coaster. The only difference now is we are 8 years older and still sitting in the same exciting roller coaster ride!

I think this is the year we break our 24 year hoodoo! How many more goals does Suarez need to break the highest number of goals scored in a season?

He could have that if he has taken the shot himself rather than passing back to Lucas, this show how a team player he is ;) unlike his striking partner..

Anyway, I am pretty sure he will be the season ending player of the year...wonderful player even from neutral point of view

Andy Cole and Alan Shearer scored 34 goals in 1993/94 and 1994/95 respectively, although both of those were 42-game seasons.

Shearer got 31 goals in the first 38-game season in 1996/97.

Kevin Phillips got 30 for Sunderland in 1999/00.

Thierry Henry scored 30 for Arsenal in 2003/04.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 31 during Manchester United’s 2007/08 season.

Robin Van Persie was last to reach the 30-goal mark in 2011/12 for Arsenal.

This game reminds me of our previous match, started off with a bang but the opposition slowly crept back into the game.

Just when we look like we are going to lose our footing, opposition make a mistake and we capitalize on it. And we hang on to get the job done at the end of the day.

This definitely has to be our year.

Let's finish Chelsea off once and for all in our next match.

Absolutely!!

Something to be very proud of considering this was always going to be a tough competitive season.

Back to present unexpected glorious aspirations, looks like Liverpool really miss Henderson and the defence and Mignolet are getting more and more dodgy, nail biting times in all 3 remaining games.

Don't think that moaner whiner Mourinho is going to give up so easily regardless of the CL semis. All hands to the deck and the redmen have to remain focused and resilient and go for wins in all 3 remaining games.

Its getting tantalizingly close now, we go again!

Patrice Evra Voted for Luis Suarez for PFA Player of the Year

By John Andrews

20 Apr 2014

Patrice Evra has apparently given his vote for PFA Player of the Year to Liverpool's Luis Suarez, something seen as very controversial given the past history between the two players.

Evra accused Suarez of racially abusing him during a game between Liverpool and Manchester United and the Uruguayan was subsequently banned for eight games and was handed a fine of £40k.

The argument then escalated further when Suarez refused to shake Evra's hand in the repeat fixture a year later, and there has been bad blood between the two parties ever since - to say the least.

However, United's French defender has put his personal feelings aside and reportedly voted for Suarez for the player of the year award.

The story was reported in the Sunday Mirror, amongst other publications and they even quoted an insider source at Old Trafford.

"Suarez is an outstanding footballer, but no-one at United could believe it when Patrice voted for him. Claimed the United source.

"It shows the measure of the man that he didn't allow what happened between them to cloud his judgement.

"He clearly doesn't bear a grudge."

Luis Suarez was amongst six nominees for the PFA Player of the Year award which will be announced on April 27th.

No goalkeeper is 100 % perfect.
Mignolet's weakness is dealing with the high crosses under challenges.
Opposing teams are starting to realise this and lately in the past few games have been bombarding him with high crosses and getting their forward to challenge Mignolet when the cross comes in.

Agree with your observations. Liverpool's play was below standard except for a couple of players. In the second half , Norwich players had more fire and hunger than Liverpool players. Credit to them. They put up a hell of a performance. They went down fighting. Liverpool were lucky to escape with a win. Really Liverpool need to do something about Mignolet's performance. If he continue with such displays I doubt Liverpool will survive even the first round of Champions League.

Norwich started with a 4-4-2 diamond and that formation allowed Sterling plenty of space to roam between the 2 lines and create havoc. :)

Neil Adams realised this and changed Norwich's formation to 4-2-3-1 which effectively closed out the space for Liverpool's penetrative attacks...... furthermore this new formation also pegged back our full backs by having their attacks coming from the wings which stretched our defensive line out of shape.

Our boys tried their best to cope but you have to give it to Neil Adam for his tactical acumen in this game. Towards the end Liverpool were firefighting and BR send Agger on to try to cut the Norwich's supply lines as Liverpool's defence could have been overwhelmed the longer the match is prolonged.

So I dun think its fair to blame the Liverpool players for the 2nd half performance..... they had given the best of their abilities out there.

A small group, close to the team, claims David Moyes has already be sacked and Manchester United did little to calm that speculation.

‘I’d also like to remind you that we’ve had bad times here. The club stood by me. All my staff stood by me. The players stood by me. So your job now is to stand by our new manager. That is important.’ - Sir Alex Ferguson, May 2013

actually, facing 2 not totally fit players isn't that bad of an idea. Look at kompany. If Terry is dropped, it means their trustworthy central defender pairing of Cahill and Terry will have to change. Good for us. Schwazer is also not too stable as a goalkeeper.

We can kind of guess chelsea's lineup now. Schwazer, cahill, lampard, matic, mikel, salah seems confirmed to start.

Don't be fooled by Mourinho, this guy is a master at playing mind games. If Mourinho is true to his character, and I believe he shall be, he will use any and all tactics and strategies to win at Anfield on Sunday, even to the extent of trying to bait some Redmen to be red carded, particularly Suarez. So Brendan Rodgers and Steven Gerrard have to warn and keep all the Redmen in check.

Read these excerpts from Alan Hansen's latest Daily Telegraph column on Mourinho. Interesting insight and I am sure it would not have escaped Brendan Rodgers' attention, although I am also sure Rodgers was already aware of this and must be coming up with tactics and strategies to counter Mourinho's probable plans.

Come on you Reds!

YNWA

" ....Because they defend so deep and have so many players that can get box to box, Chelsea have been perfect for the Champions League. They have got this structure and way of playing that is ideal, they are now a very counter-attacking side. If you look at the games against Crystal Palace and Sunderland, when the two teams were playing with a blanket defence and put everyone behind the ball, Chelsea struggled to break them down. But at Manchester City, when the onus is on their opponents to come at you, Chelsea beat them and could have even scored four goals.

I expect it to be a similar game against Atlético, when they will soak up pressure, then hit them on the break, and it is when the pressure is on that Mourinho springs into life. When you have had such a disappointing result like Saturday evening’s you want the next game to come around as soon as possible, to get it out of your system. Who could have predicted that Sunderland would go to the Etihad and Stamford Bridge, two of the most formidable places to play in the Premier League, and pick up four points from six?...

Now the game at Anfield on Sunday is all about Liverpool. If they win, Steven Gerrard will almost smell the Premier League title, but if Chelsea win it means three teams, including Manchester City, are back in the race.

Nothing is won until you have got the medal in your hands, as we found out in 1989 when we lost to Arsenal at home. There will be plenty more twists and turns in the final weeks and you would have to think Chelsea’s best chance of success is in the Champions League.

Some people have suggested Chelsea were on the verge of meltdown after the Sunderland defeat but they are a big team with big players and a big manager. When you have got a team like that you can thrive on adversity.

Mourinho’s comments after the game were clearly designed to put pressure on the referee at Anfield and were from the same school of mind games that Sir Alex Ferguson used to excel at.

Everything Mourinho says is for a reason, whether it is to influence an individual or get a collective reaction from his players. Whoever referees the game next weekend will have it in the back of his mind that Chelsea have been feeling aggrieved at decisions from officials. That is what mind games are all about and it ensures all eyes will be on the referee."

There are only a small number of awesome left backs and A. Cole is without a doubt one of them. Good experience in the Premier League and Champions League. Downside, he is 33 and with Liverpool's no over-30 policy, the potential to sign him could be dark. He will not be sold on the cheap as well.

All this could change should Rodgers sign a new contract as he is demanding more control over the club's transfer strategies. :p

Downside, he is 33 and with Liverpool's no over-30 policy, the potential to sign him could be dark. He will not be sold on the cheap as well.

Ashley Cole should be a free transfer at the end of this season. We do sign players who are over-30. We signed 32 year-old Kolo Toure this season. If we sign Ashley Cole, what will happen to Luis Enrique and Flanagan? I prefer to let Flanagan grow in the left back position.

Luis Enrique will probably carry on with his singing career :D
lol...... I dint know he was a footballer?

As for Jose Enrique the LFC left back..... I think his career is probably over as his knee reconstructive surgery dint turn out well. Even if he does return to playing..... it probably will be at a lower level than the standards required of the BPL or CL..... so it's better that LFC release him and sign another left back.

Rodgers was probably replacing experience with experience, or so it seemed. Liverpool had 5 CBs, excluding Toure and Sakho.

Next season will be more challenging as Liverpool competes in Premier League, Champions League and domestic cups. Cole's experience is valuable and since he might be available on a free transfer, why not ? However, on £70,000 per week ?

Enrique's playing time will be cut short as his knee issues is just too overwhelming. Flanagan has been decent but he needs careful management.

Chelsea is just a home win from the CL final. (24 May)
If they qualify, some of their injured players will be back.
Enough time to rest.

Putting up a strong team does not guarantee a win at Anfield.
Could risk further injury to the squad.
A win at Anfield does not mean that they will win the league.
Man City stand a better chance than Chelsea.

I believe Liverpool will beat Palace and Newcastle.
They are safe from relegation and no chance of a place in Europe.

If Chelsea can't win it JM would prefer Liverpool to win it.

JM said that in FEB.... "......prefer Liverpool to win it, BR is my friend..."

More trouble for Chelsea !

"Chelsea trio Jose Mourinho, Rui Faria and Ramires have all been charged with misconduct by the Football Association."

"Ramires has until 6pm on Thursday evening to respond to the charge, while Mourinho and Faria have until 6pm next Monday to consider their responses."

Ramires could be out for the remaining games.

JM can give excuses for losing to Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho Given the Green Light by Chelsea Board to Field Weakened Team at Liverpool

http://www.ftbpro.com/posts/scott.saunders.2/885252/jose-mourinho-given-the-green-light-by-chelsea-board-to-field-weakened-team-at-liverpool

Can JM's words be trusted? Will the Chelsea board give up the title challenge so easily?

I was skeptical at first but after lookin at the current odds given by Spools (1.55 3.75 4.60) and similar close odds given by overseas online bookmakers, it's highly possible Chelsea would be fielding a 'weakened' squad. Surely, the brilliant angmo bookmakers must have done their homework and made sure JM's info was credible before they set the odds.

Mind games or truth, even a 'reserve' Chelsea squad consisting players like Lampa, Sala, Schurrle, Ba should not be taken for granted.

Hopefully Pool will not be lulled into complacency n go on to clinch that vital win on Sunday!

Liverpool should not care about what team Mourinho fields, Brendan Rodgers should just concentrate 100% on the Reds preparation for the game, which I am sure he is doing, keeping in mind Mourinho's usual game plan tactics and strategies.

Its obvious that whatever team Mourinho fields at Anfield on Sunday, he will pack the midfield and his defence will play deep, and try and play quick counter attacks, particularly probing Reds weaker left side, also plying high ball crosses when they can as this too has proved to be the Reds weakness all season.

The other tactic which Mourinho shall probably apply is baiting Redmen to be red carded, particularly Suarez.

So all in, its still going to be a tough game, but I think Brendan Rodgers and his Redmen are up for it and it is all systems go, not forgetting the 12th man, the Kop!

Can't wait, this is Anfield, we go again!

Come on you Reds!

Please do not underestimate Chelsea even if they have play a B team. They still have enough quality in their squad.Liverpool should just stick to their game plan and not be fooled by Mourinho's silly mind games.
