According to Wiki, it's the Teochews who first created this dish. I had always thought it's a Hokkien dish..

Sorry @ginfreely .. I wanted to credit your Hokkien Clan for this wonderful favourite dish which I love lots, but couldn't now, as evidence point towards the Teochew's heritage.
