Chitchat Lowly Civil Serpent Upset That He Can't Moonlight While His Big Bosses Can!

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

I refer to the article, "S’pore civil servants cannot moonlight, must get permission before carpooling" (31 Aug 2017, Mothership).

It states that the Singapore civil service does not allow its employees to perform GrabHitch services because it is concerned about potential conflict of interest. Civil servants who want to provide GrabHitch services must apply for permission, which would be granted on a case-by-case basis.

I find this laughable, especially since this exposes the hypocrisy of all levels of our Government, starting with our highest paid Civil Servants : Ministers, Members of Parliament, and Civil Service upper management.

Let me point out a few examples:

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is the Prime Minister of Singapore, and also the chairman of the Board of Directors in GIC.



Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam is the Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies, Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), AND the Chairman of the Group of Thirty, an independent global council of leading economic and financial policy-makers.



Part-time MP Murali in Bukit Batok SMC also exposed that many People's Action Party MPs are actually moonlighting with a second job while serving as MPs for their residents.



Don't forget MP for Marine Parade Tin Pei Ling, who is not only an MP, but also a mother to her children : another under-recognized job, but still a job.



Then there is also people from the Public Service Division holding 3 positions in more than one government body. Isn't that 3 times the salary for one man? Unless the Public Service Division is saying that they are paying Mr Chan the salary for one job and forcing him to do the work of 3 men. Then he should go complain to MOM for overworking.



There are many more examples of this and I do not need to list them all to prove the point. It is abhorrent that the so-called Civil Service be allowed to bully its smaller, weaker employees while its upper management and bosses are allowed to do as they please.
