SINGAPORE — The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is looking into a broken railing at an underpass at Boat Quay, after a man fell and hurt himself while taking photographs in front of the railing on Sunday.

In response to queries, a spokesperson said yesterday (Feb 1): “We are currently investigating the cause of the broken railing. In the interim, we have cordoned off the area and will replace it with a permanent railing.”

The man, in his 40s, was dining at Riverwalk Tandoor with about 20 others prior to the incident on Sunday. After their meal, several of them, including the man, decided to take a picture outside the restaurant. They stood on elevated ground, with their backs against the metal railings and the underpass just below them. The man, who was sustained head injuries, was subsequently conveyed to Singapore General Hospital.

The railing in question is missing its top bar. Following Sunday’s incident, red and white tape was put up to mark the spot.
