Man finds cockroach in chicken feet from dim sum restaurant: NEA takes enforcement action against food stall operator

Posted on 15 August 2015 | 662 views | 2 comments

NEA has revealed that they have taken enforcement action against a food shop located at 183 to 191 Jalan Besar after a Stomper sent in a report of a cockroach found in a dish of chicken feet at the dim sum restaurant.
Stomper Ng found a cockroach in his dish of chicken feet from the dim sum restaurant when he was dining there on Aug 7.

Here is the NEA's response in full:
"The National Environment Agency (NEA) takes a serious view of operators who fail to exercise diligence in ensuring the food they prepare and serve is fit for consumption.

"We have inspected the implicated food shop located at 183 to 191Jalan Besar on 8 August 2015, following the feedback on a cockroach found in a dish of chicken feet purchased from the dim sum restaurant, and have taken enforcement action against the food stall operator for hygiene infringements.

"We have also reminded the food stall operator to practise proper housekeeping and storage of food, and intensify their pest control measures immediately. Under the Environment Public Health (Food Hygiene) Regulations, licensees who are convicted for hygiene lapses can be fined up to $2,000.

"This year (as of 30 June 2015), NEA has conducted about 75,000 inspections on food premises and taken more than 1,600 enforcement actions against errant food operators who flouted hygiene regulations. We will continue to monitor the premises closely.
"We thank the reader for the feedback."
