Thumbs up The Winning Team for Tampines GRC ???

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SINGAPORE: Mr Heng Swee Keat named two possible candidates for the People's Action Party General Election campaign in Tampines GRC: Mr Desmond Choo and Ms Cheng Li Hui.

"Since the last election, me and my fellow MPs have been working the ground, we've been working hard to serve our residents. We've also been making plans to make Tampines an even better town, in fact we've been doing a lot of work to improve the neighbourhood," said the Education Minister, speaking to Channel NewsAsia after flagging off the Tampines SG50 Walk on Sunday (Jul 26).

"We also have many volunteers; they've joined us and they've also been working the ground. In particular, Desmond Choo and Ms Cheng Li Hui have been with us and they have been serving residents especially over the last few months."

Mr Choo was a losing candidate in the 2011 GE, having been defeated by Mr Yaw Shin Leong of the Workers' Party, the deputy director at the National Trades Union Congress taking 35.2 per cent of the vote in Hougang Single Member Constituency.

He also lost the by-election in the same ward a year later after Mr Yaw was expelled from the WP following an extramarital affair. Mr Choo took 37.9 per cent of the vote against the WP candidate Png Eng Huat in the 2012 Hougang by-election.

Mr Choo was last year named the second adviser to grassroots organisations in Tampines East - a ward currently helmed by Mr Mah Bow Tan, 67.

Ms Cheng Li Hui is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director at Hai Leck Holdings, which provides engineering and maintenance services to the oil, gas, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.

She is also vice-chairman of the Citizen Consultative Committee in Tampines East.

Said Mr Heng of the two, who were also at the event on Sunday: "They have the right spirit to serve residents and we are working with them to do a good job of serving our residents, and our residents have been responding to them.

"But at the same time all our MPs have been also working very hard. So our final line-up will be announced when we are ready."

The five MPs currently serving Tampines GRC are Mr Heng, Mr Mah, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Mr Baey Yam Keng and Ms Irene Ng. The constituency will remain a five-member GRC in the upcoming GE.
