http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...t/1981432.html Two hurt in land protest at Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park A spokesperson for the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park has confirmed two people, including a woman crushed by an excavator, were hurt during a protest at the site of its new park in Hai Duong. By Tan Qiuyi POSTED: 13 Jul 2015 21:41 UPDATED: 13 Jul 2015 21:42 HANOI: Two people were hurt during a protest at the site of an upcoming Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in northern Vietnam, a spokesperson confirmed on Monday (Jul 13). The incident took place last Friday morning. About 100 residents were protesting construction at the site in Hai Duong province, about 60km east of the capital Hanoi, amidst a dispute over compensation for their land, according to local media reports. A graphic video of the incident, showing a woman run over by an excavator during the protest, has gone viral on YouTube. The 48-second video shows people frantically trying to get the driver's attention, before the camera pans to the woman pinned beneath its tracks, with just part of her torso and her legs sticking out. A number of people tried, but failed to lift the excavator. The video has spawned several copies, with one of the videos chalking up more than 200,000 views on YouTube as of Monday. Vietnamese daily Thanh Nien News said the woman, 54-year-old Le Thi Cham, survived, and is now recovering in a Hanoi hospital. Eyewitnesses said she apparently sank into the soft soil underneath the heavy machine. The excavator driver was also hurt, a VSIP Hai Duong spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia. The 150-hectare VSIP Hai Duong is a joint venture between SembCorp Development and Vietnam's Becamex IDC. There are a total of seven Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks dotted across Vietnam in total, two of which are under construction. - CNA/dl Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
