please consolidate. i'll start with how diploma and degree mills started. it was the year 1989. american ingenuity and notoriety for rip-off's and embellishments probably spurred the need to falsify or boost one's credentials. and they typically happen with religious leaders, ron hubbard for example with scientology.
this one was a self-professed religious leader with a phd from so called "lasalle university", and he got busted by the fbi in 1996. the lasalle here is different from the real la salle university in pennsylvania. the fake lasalle was founded in 1989 by a thomas kirk.
