4 PRCS Flew To Singapore And Cheated Eldery Lady Of $10,000

Post date:
11 Mar 2015 - 11:04am

4 Chinese Nationals flew to Singapore specifically to scam elderly victims here they pleaded guilty to scamming a 62 year old housewife here of $10,000.

The four, Li Qiangqing, Wei Shuihong, Zhu Zhaozong and Wei Wendong, aged between 48 and 53, arrived in Singapore on Jan 11 this year with various electronic parts as part of their scam.

The men used the electronic parts to deceive elderly victims here.

On Jan 13, Wei Shuihong approached an elderly victim here and asked her for directions when he saw that she was alone at a market in Tampines.

While he was asking her for directions, he pretended to drop an electronic part.

Zhu approached the two and asked what the dropped part was. Wei told Zhu that they were valuable computer parts and he was selling them at $50 a piece.

During their conversation, Li would then join in and say that he was actually buying the same pieces for up to $80 a piece.

Later, Zhu approached the victim and said that he wanted to buy 800 of the pieces from Wei and sell them to Li for a quick profit. He claimed that he didn't have enough money and asked if the elderly lady wanted to chip in.

Enticed by the idea of a quick profit, she agreed and returned home to get $10,000 Zhu and Wei took the money from her and left together to "retrieve the parts".

They told her to wait at the void deck for Li to come.

However, after waiting, she realised that Li was not coming and so she reported the incident to the police.

The fourth Chinese National, Wei Wendong, did not actually take part in the scam but he conspired with them and received $1,000 of the ill-gotten money.

All the men were arrested on Jan 15 and pleaded guilty to the charges.

The men are expected to be sentenced on March 17.
