Thumbs up Theme of NDP "SG50" Likely to Pay Tribue to Mr. LKY [And PAP!]

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

In Parliament on Thursday, Tampines GRC MP Irene Ng suggested that NDP this year should pay tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

She pointed out that Mr Lee's leadership is what brought Singapore to be what it is today and she said that it was "only right" that we should pay tribute to him.

She also suggested that the People's Defence Force volunteers who participated in the first ever National Day Parade in 1966 be invited to this year's parade.

She noted how the first NDP was held at a time when the people's morale was low and it helped to boost people's faith in the country and its leaders.

This year, as the NDP is back at the Padang where is all started, Ms Ng said that we should bring them back into the spotlight.

It is strange that Ms Ng has dedicated her speech and time in parliament to talking about how NDP should be planned.

This is hardly something which is a national policy and is likely to be better discussed with the NDP organising committee.

Her praises for Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the first People's Defence Force volunteers, while they may have contributed to Singapore's past, have no impact on shaping Singapore in the future and is essentially waste of parliament's time.

Shouldn't she address more important questions about the planned policies of the budget?
