Thumbs up Why Singapore Need FTs! Cannot Rely On Lazy Sinkies!

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Dear TRS,

I would like to highlight and praise one Filipino worker here whom I had encountered when I went to Sengkang Kopitiam hawker centre on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year (Sat, 21/02/2015).

She was hardworking and friendly and smiled to customers even though she was clearly facing an overwhelming workload with very little to no help.

Around 9 pm plus. she was alone manning the drinks counter, and there were an overwhelming of customers queuing and ordering drinks, cold and hot alike.

Apart from that, she also has to take care of the fruits section, where customers would order fresh fruits there.

There was one male staff not in uniform, and he did help a little, taking orders and collecting payments. However after seeing the crowd thinned, he also left, leaving her to face the never-ending crowd.

While queuing, I also noticed three full large rubbish bins totally filled to the brim. I have no idea when her shift started, especially when most, if not all, Chinese staff would be on leave. I imagine she had already been standing on her feet for hours, and catering to the tsunami-flood of customers coming to order from her.

Despite the clearly stressful workload, she was polite and attentive and hardworking.

We Singaporeans are not Xenophobic. We are wide-hearted and compassionate. I am sure there are many other Singaporeans who have noticed and silently appreciate the work of foreign staff in Singapore who work hard while he take leave to spend time with family.

Admittedly, there are jobs we may not wish to take up, but that is not the real reason. The high costs of living, from housing to transportation to medical, forced us to shun many jobs which could not cater to our living expenses, especially so if we are to raise a family. Because of this, in the end, these jobs are taken up by foreigners...

While we are going to face an upcoming election that may shape the façade of Singapore's future, let us thank the many nameless foreigners who helped us in crossing over the manpower crunch, when most of us are celebrating and resting, and all the more ponder over the manifestations of such scenarios and occurrences, tracing down to the root of all matters; It is certainly not foreigners' fault that we have not taken up these jobs and most of them are friendly, hardworking and just wanting the best for themselves.
