ELDERLY PARENTS OF VICTIM IN 2012 FERRARI CRASH FINALLY REACH AGREEMENT WITH INSURER

Post date:
6 Feb 2015 - 11:43pm

After a year of legal disputes, the elderly parents of Japanese National Shigemi Ito have come to an agreement with the insurers of the Speeding Red Ferrari which fatally crashed into a Taxi at a traffic junction.
The accident happened along Rochor Road in 2012 when the Red Ferrari driven by PRC national Ma Chi, beat a red light and crashed into a taxi.
The elderly parents of Ms Ito, one of the victims in the crash had originally wanted to claim over $700,000 from the estate of Ma Chi as they claimed that their daughter had promised them an $850,000 apartment shortly before she died.
While the exact terms of the agreement reached was not shared publicly, Mr Thio Tse Chong, a Singaporean Banker who brought proceedings against Ma Chi’s estate in behalf of the elderly parents of Ms Ito, shared that "Mr and Mrs Ito are loved and provided for in as much a way that their daughter would have wanted if she was here with us".
Mr Thio’s exact relationship with Ms Ito and her parents is unknown but he attended Ms Ito’s funeral in Japan with his brother.

Ms Ito, 41, was the passenger in the taxi was studying in Singapore to be an interior designer. She had often sent her parents health and medical supplements worth over $450 and she gave them money when they came to Singapore. She had also saved over $400,000 for the apartment in Japan that she planned to buy her parents.
The settlement was reached through Mediation and it did not go through the courts. It is estimated that over $100,000 in legal fees have been saved because of the mediation.
