More chances for pinoys in sg to relocate to philippines while working in sg companie

MORE CHANCES FOR PINOYS IN SG TO RELOCATE TO PHILIPPINES WHILE WORKING IN SG COMPANIES Post date: 4 Feb 2015 - 10:52am  Minister of trade and industry Lim Hng Kiang has said that they are building more business ties with the Philippines and creating more opportunities for Singapore businesses to set up in the Philippines. Minister Lim said that the Philippines is on the rise and there is a lot of demand for infrastructure development as well as consumer goods. The value of the infrastructure demand is estimated to be worth over US$21 Billion and the country, with a population of about 100 million has a large appetite for consumer goods. Mr Lim noted that last year, bilateral trade between Singapore and the Philippines totalled over S$15 Billion. He also said that the Philippines has progressed a lot and its business environment is much more developed than 10 years ago. A new IE Singapore office has also been established in Manilla to facilitate more Singapore companies setting up in the Philippines. Currently, there are already a few prominent names which have set up there including Breadtalk, Keppel Offshore and Marine and The Ascott Group. While this is good news for Singapore businesses looking to expand into the Philippines, it is not clear whether it will impact average Singaporeans much. It could be argued that some workers would be brought over to work as expats in the Philippines to help as businesses set up over there, one major point to note is that for this, Pinoy staff may actually be at an advantage over Singaporeans to get a relocation package. Pinoys working in local companies here, which are looking to expand in the Philippines, may be picked over their Singaporean colleagues to get a pay rise and shift to set up in the Philippines because of their language advantage. Once the companies set up in the Philippines, they are more likely to hire Philippines workers for their local operations.
