RATS FOUND LIVING IN THE FALSE CEILING ABOVE 14 MORE FOOD STALLS AT MARINA SQUARE Post date: 26 Jan 2015 - 7:44pm The national environment agency explained that it has found evidence of rat activity in the false ceilings of 14 different food shops and stalls in Marina Square. There was also rat activities found at one of the mall’s bin centres. NEA had been investigating the mall after one stall, Hot Pot Culture, had served a buffet vegetable dish with a dead rat inside. Enforcement action is going to be taken against three more stores as one was found with rat droppings and another two were found to be unacceptably dirty. All the other stores were cautioned and told to ensure they clean up well and practice proper hygiene and food storage. Information about pest prevention and control were also given to store operators to assist them in making sure they are not contributing to the infestation. Marina Square’s mall management also explained that they are intensifying pest control measures including completely sealing the false ceiling where rodent activity was found. The last time Marina Square was in trouble was September 2014 when 12 stores had enforcement action taken against them for leaving food scraps on the floor or failing to prevent rodent activity. For now, the situation is deemed to be under control and NEA said that it will monitor the situation. Meanwhile the restaurant owner of Hot Pot Culture, admitted that the dish where the dead rat was found had been cooked the previous day and left uncovered overnight. Oh, yeah!
