FOUNDER OF NIPPON PAINT (SEA), GOH CHENG LIANG, IS NOW SINGAPORE’S RICHEST MAN

Post date:
19 Jan 2015 - 12:51pm

According to a report in Bloomberg, Mr Goh Cheng Liang, the founder of Nippon Paint South-East Asia Group (Nipsea) is Singapore’s richest man with a fortune of US$8.2 Billion (S$10.8 Billion).
Mr Goh is 87 and jointly owns Nipsea with Nippon Paint Holdings which is based in Osaka.
Mr Goh holds 39% in Nippon Paint through investment company Wuthelam Holdings, which makes him the largest shareholder of Nipsea.
The Bloomberg Report went on to list the others in the Singapore Rich List including Mr Wee Cho Yaw, the largest shareholder of UOB in 2nd place with a fortune of US$6.9 billion. Mdm Tan Kim Choo, the widow of property tycoon Ng Teng Fong, was listed as the third richest with a wealth of US$4.9 billion.

Mr Goh started his business with a small paint shop in 1955 in Singapore. He later became a distributor for Nippon Paint and was involved in the establishment of a paint manufacturing plant in Singapore in 1962 which became part of Nipsea.
Nipsea now operates in over 15 different countries and is Asia’s biggest paintmaker.
Mr Goh’s son, Hup Jin, 61, now currently heads Nipsea and has done so since the 1980s.
