Another external agency gives a sinkapore entity an award. Does APICTA has a clue how screw-up LTA is?

SINGAPORE - The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has emerged as the overall winner in the Government and Public Sector category at the Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Alliance (APICTA) Award 2014 for its innovative use of data analytics to improve bus services.

A ceremony for the annual awards, which honours the best infocomm technology innovations in the region, was held in Jakarta last Sunday. This year's awards saw a total of 180 nominations from 17 Asia-Pacific countries.

The LTA's deployment of advanced data analytics has helped to map out travel patterns and behaviour across Singapore, and gain a better understanding of commuter demand.

This resulted in a 60 per cent reduction in the number of bus services with persistent crowding despite an annual increase in average daily bus ridership, the LTA said in a statement today. Average waiting time for popular bus services has also been shortened by three to seven minutes.

The LTA's group director for innovation and infocomm technology Mrs Rosina Howe-Teo said that the award was a validation of the quality of its efforts to enhance public transport services in Singapore.
