The incredible statistic was outlined in a tweet by journalist Pawan Durani and has gathered over 5,000 retweets since it was posted this week. However in a turn of events, recent reports by various different sources claim that the heroine has since been captured and executed. One of these sources being the International Business Times. But even with a photo of her ‘decapitated body’ doing the rounds on the internet, this is still yet to be confirmed, as nowadays, that confirms nothing. Rehana is part of an independent women’s division of the Peshmerga, or Kurdish militia, who are known for their fearlessness and effectiveness in war. The Pehmerga were responsible for the capture of Bin Laden’s al-Qaeda chief in 2004, which then led to the operation that eventually captured Osama himself. So while the Kurds are severely outnumbered by the Islamic State, they remain a consistent thorn in their sides. The only slightly uncomfortable thing about the tweet is the apparent relish Pawan Durani is celebrating the death of 100 people. Being removed from the conflict allows you to be high minded about how to treat the enemy, even in death, but would we have a different opinion if we were there and should every ISIS death be celebrated as much as possible?
