Thumbs up S$10,000 REWARD FOR INFO on MARMOSET PET keeper

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

This marmoset was found lying on a grass patch at marine crescent, severely emaciated and weak.

Some FARKER must have illegally smuggled the poor fella in and fugged up in the care dept and just dumped him on the grass.

ACRES is now offering a S$10,000 reward for info that will lead to the arrest of the arsehole who did this.

Do it for the money or do it for the poor marmoset, if you know who did this, please contact ACRES at 9783-7782.

IT IS ILLEGAL TO KEEP THEM AS PETS IN SINGAPORE.

From ACRES' FB page:

URGENT APPEAL FOR INFORMATION

The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team rescued a female black tufted marmoset (Callithrix penicillata) who was found lying on a grass patch at 47 Marine Crescent last Friday.

Black tufted marmoset are endemic to Brazil and it is illegal to keep them as pets in Singapore. They live in rainforests, usually residing high in the trees, under the canopy and they rarely have been observed at or near ground level.

The marmoset was severely emaciated and upon close veterinary examination by the vets at Singapore Zoo, the animal was found to be suffering from severe metabolic bone disease and had to be humanely euthanized.

ACRES is appealing to the public for information and is offering a $10,000 reward leading to the successful prosecution of the individual who had illegally kept this marmoset as a pet. If you have any information with regard to this, please contact us by calling the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Hotline (9783 7782).

The Illegal wildlife trade is growing and there is an urgent need to curb this trade.

We must send out a strong message that Singapore is committed and serious in combating this illegal trade and ensure that individuals involved in this trade are not only caught but given effective deterrent sentences.
