Thumbs up Bedbugs spread from elderly man's infested home

Quote:A number of flats in Toa Payoh have been invaded by bedbugs, resulting in sleepless nights for residents, Shin Min Daily News said.

Ms Peng, 31, a manicurist, said she found bedbugs in her home last month. It was the first time she had seen the pests in the six years she has been living in Block 2 in Toa Payoh Lorong 7.

A few days later, she saw a swarm of the bugs emerging from her neighbour's home. The elderly man who lived there was admitted to hospital for asthma.

A Shin Min reporter found that at least eight units in the vicinity were plagued by the bugs.

The man's neighbours have since taped up his home with plastic sheets in the hope that the bedbugs can be contained.

Ms Peng said she tried to get her neighbour to give her the key to his flat, but he refused.

"There were a few hundred, I think. It was horrible! I have used insecticide and disinfectant to clean up my house, but they still appear. I can't sleep well at all," she told Shin Min.

She added that her five-year-old son was so badly bitten, he could not attend kindergarten for a week.
