Dr Koh’s firm produces humorous video featuring him

December 20th, 2013 | Author: Editorial

Dr Koh Poh Koon’s company, Fortis Healthcare Singapore, produced and put up a humorous promotional video on YouTube recently []:
Fortis Healthcare Singapore's promotional video featuring Dr Koh Poh Koon

The video is titled “Colon VS Colon: Dr Koh’s New Campaign” and carries the message, “A special appeal to rally support for a good cause”.
The video highlights the importance of going for colorectal screening to prevent colon cancer.
The video appears to be leveraging on Dr Koh’s political campaign conducted last January as the PAP candidate for Punggol East SMC in a by-election. He eventually lost to WP’s Lee Li Lian in a four-cornered fight, which was triggered when the previous MP, PAP’s Michael Palmer, resigned over an affair with a female People’s Association staff.
The video features Dr Koh lampooning himself in the Punggol East by-election. It is literally full of toilet humour and fart jokes e.g. a scene shows him donning a victor’s garland and pumping his fist in the air, while urging viewers to go for early colorectal screening.
Dr Koh is the Senior Consultant and Director of Colorectal Surgical Oncology & Cancer Genetics Service at the Fortis Colorectal Hospital (FCH), a business unit of Fortis Healthcare Singapore. FCH is “Singapore and Southeast Asia’s first and only hospital dedicated to colorectal diseases management”, its website says. FCH was only launched in July last year.
On the website (
www.fortiscolorectalhospital.com), Singaporeans and PRs aged 50 and above are told that they can use their or their immediate family member’s Medisave for colonoscopy, to screen for colorectal cancer [Link]:
Medisave Claimable Screening Colonoscopy
CPF members 50 years of age and above can claim up to S$1,250 for a screening colonoscopy, and S$1,550 for a screening colonoscopy with the removal of polyps. You could refer to the Ministry of Health website here for details.
Screening Colonoscopy available @ Fortis Colorectal Hospital
Colonoscopy is arguably the most effective screening test for colorectal cancer. During a colonoscopy, growths called polyps can be detected and immediately removed, hence preventing the cancer from developing.
It is a safe procedure with less than 0.05% risk of perforation to the wall of the colon. The entire process takes less than 30 minutes with minimal discomfort.

The Ministry of Health’s website [Link] confirms that FCH is an approved colonoscopy centre whose patients can claim from Medisave for their colonoscopy.
Some netizens are perturbed that Dr Koh has seemingly leveraged on his political endeavor to promote his company’s business. But Dr Koh does not agree. He feels that if he has lost any political mileage with the video, it is a “good sacrifice”, given its worthy message.
