Thumbs up Contempt of Court ---> Views by a Commoner

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Read somewhere interesting about our definition of contempt and scandalizing of court: -

Who is really guilty?:

He says that the offence of scandalising the court remains very much alive in Australia, HK and New Zealand but gives no examples of how it is exercised there compared to Singapore. He claims he doesn’t want to comment since the case is pending but still comments and gives his opinion on it anyway.

1) When the AG acts like they are the Govt’s lawyers rather than the public’s lawyers, they scandalise the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
2) When the laws are skewed to making the AG’s job easier, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
3) When the police do not videotape statements, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
4) When the authorities do not allow the basic right of an accused to a lawyer, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
5) When the government says it has laws it has no intention of exercising, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
6) When the government changes the constitution almost every month, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.
7) When the government is allowed to use the ISA to detain people without having to defend their actions in court, that scandalises the judicial process and erodes confidence in it.

The actions of the govt and the AG do enough to scandalise the judicial process erode confidence in it without any help from the public.
