Thumbs up MEDISHIELD LIFE - Minister Gan now then form panel to examine key issues

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

A panel of health-care, finance and insurance professionals as well as trade unionists and grassroots members will examine the key issues involved in introducing MEDISHIELD LIFE, the national insurance scheme that aims to cover everyone for life. Health Minister is expecting good input from them, as MEDISHIELD LIFE signals a major shift in policy. This is expected to run over the next six months.

Question for Minister Gan:
The scheme was announced by PM during the Rally Speech - only now you are starting to "examine the key issues involved"?

The Panel will be headed by Mr Bobby Chin, a member of the Council of Presidential Advisers. He said he will talk more about his panel's composition after the members are appointed.

(Translation: we are still looking for people but in the meantime, this announcement is to show that we are not sitting on our backsides since the first announcement in August).

Mr Gan also said: "People (did he mean the PM?) must understand that the more it tries to cover, the higher the premiums will be. Coverage should target areas people need most protection for, primarily catastrophic (Freudian slip, since there are stories circulating that one can get a heart operation for $8?) bills, so that we can keep premiums affordable (Oh no, NOT that word again!) yet provide the most effective coverage."
