It does seems that he got off lightly...
the hearsay is that although the law caters for fine of between $1000-5000 and min 12 months revocation of license, it seems no one has heard of the min of $1000. Min so far i heard from circles of friends is that $2000 and 12 months is the lowest. The perceived punishment normally goes higher when you exceed the limit by more. They do cater for a bit of machine reading error when deciding whether to charge you or not...so legal limit 35mg, i deduced that they are unlikely to charge you if your reading is 36mg, 37mg, 38mg, 39mg..you will get a letter of warning from the TP...Anything with a 4 beginning (40,41,42 +++) they will charge you in court. So going back to the case, he was 50mg or 60mg?? I myself got $2000 & 12 mnths...and i exceeded by 2 points (41mg)... and so got the perceived min punishment...so I do not understand why a reading of 50mg or 60mg also got the same punishment....I also attended event, cooperated with the police and own up to my mistakes... Got the picture? you guys go figure it out yourself if he got off lightly here..
