Video of near-accident along KPE goes viral

Yahoo! Newsroom – Mon, Jul 29, 2013

The video of the near accident along KPE has gone viral.

[UPDATE on 30 July: Adding statement from the Singapore Police Force]

Traffic police have called up two drivers for investigations after a video of their near-crash went viral.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said that in a post on their Facebook page on Monday, adding that "appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the law".

They also said traffic police do not condone such "lawless and inconsiderate road behaviour".

The 69-second YouTube clip, which is shot from a mounted camera on a car dashboard was posted on Saturday and has been viewed over 105,000 times over the weekend.

The video shows a red car, which appears to be a Mercedes Benz, cutting into the centre lane of the car with the video recorder on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).
Out of nowhere, a black car travelling at a much higher speed cuts in from the right and also converges on the centre lane, almost crashing into the red car at high speed.
Both cars come within centimetres of ramming into each other's side before swerving away as emergency brakes were applied. In the process, the black car almost takes out another car on the right lane before speeding away.

That's not all -- both cars continue their dangerous driving about 45 seconds later as they emerge from the tunnel near the Tampines Road exit.

This time, the red car appears to speed up, coming from behind the black car which attempts to block it. As the red car overtakes, the black car engages in pursuit, cutting in from the last minute from a road exit, once again coming dangerously close to causing an accident.

The video, which according to the time stamp on the bottom left corner was filmed, at 4.38pm last Wednesday. The KPE is known to have a speed limit of 70km/h.
