Two women were fined for high-rise littering this week and last week, after they were caught on surveillance cameras. The National Environment Agency (NEA) said on Wednesday. The two offenders, 28-year-old Ms Rasini and 20-year-old Ms Umah, who live at Block 53 Pipit Road and Block 655 Hougang Avenue 8, are the youngest people to be caught for high rise littering via camera surveillance footage. The women were fined $400 and $800 respectively. NEA declined to give the full names of the offenders.

NEA said residents living in the two estates had to put up with the inconveniences of high rise littering at their blocks. Residents of Block 53 Pipit Road complained about plastic bags and paper being littered, while at Hougang Avenue 8, there were complaints of cigarette butts being thrown.

Ms Rasini was caught on camera throwing a bag of rubbish out of the window in December last year, while Ms Umah was filmed throwing a cigarette butt out of the window in February this year.

NEA urged residents to take ownership of their own environment and dispose of their own rubbish properly to tackle the high rise littering issue. The agency also called on eyewitnesses to come forth to provide information on such offences, by calling its hotline at 1800-2255-632.
