Thumbs up Third person dies from dengue in SG

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

It took TWO days while he's warded in hospital to discover that the man had dengue?
June 22 (Sat) - June 24 (Mon)

86-year-old man is third dengue death in 5 weeks
http://www.todayonline.com/singapore...-death-5-weeks

According to a joint statement by the Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency, the man went to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital’s (KTPH) emergency department on June 22 with a one-day history of fever, and was found to have low blood pressure.

KTPH said a blood test was done and the man’s blood platelet count was found to be in the normal range. He was assessed to be in a stable condition and warded for observation.

However, on Monday, the man showed signs of “bleeding under the skin”. A second blood test was conducted which showed “a significant drop in the blood platelet count”.

After dengue serology tests were performed, he was found to have dengue. His condition deteriorated rapidly and he developed multiple organ failure. The hospital admitted him into its Intensive Care Unit with a diagnosis of Dengue Shock Syndrome, for further resuscitation and treatment.

Despite blood transfusions and supportive therapy, his condition continued to deteriorate. KTPH said it held a family conference with the patient’s family members yesterday morning to inform them that his prognosis was “very poor”. The man died later in the afternoon.
