I was very careful. I did not take a cab from the hotel as I knew I would be ripped off. I hailed a cab from the road side, which brought us to Melody, which is a Pay-by-Hour KTV Joint without Meimei. We have decided not to go in as there would be no fun with 3 men singing amongst ourselves. We left the place immediately and then avoided those cab drivers trying to bring us to joints that they recommended. We hailed a cab from the road side and then told him that we wanted to go to a KTV with Meimeis (This was our biggest mistake). The rest of the story has been reported in my FR above.

Yes, I totally agree with Bro Just4fun and many others, you may be in the game for many years and thinking that you are experienced, but a simple slip of the mind will land you into a simple trap. While we were in the joint, the MMs kept pestering us to buy them drinks, and we all refused. Suddenly, fruit plate and packet titbits kept coming in, and the MMs opened a packet, ate a little bit from it. Without finishing it, they opened another one. This was a tell-tale sign and we sensed something fishy and decided to quit. My two Beijing frineds are good drinkers, but they declined to order any alcohol. Otherwise, we would end up with a bigger bill.

In addition, while the Mamasan laid down the price structure, listen carefully. Ask her to repeat if necessary. Please distinguish carefully between Tai-fei and tips for the girl. They are different. 台费和小姐的小费是一百 is different from 台费和小姐的小费各是一百。They usually speak fast and give you the first version. While when payment time, they would come with the second version.

My two Beijing Friends are from the North Eastern region and were Wujin (Armed Police) before. They were tall and big-size. They were angry and intended to challenge the four guys outside the room. I have pulled them back, and told them to pay and got out from the jont first. Whatever we would do, get out and be safe first. I think this should be the way, who know how many guys they have in the joint. They have decided to call their Wujin friends in Nanjing (where the largest Military Area headquater is housed) and bash the joint. Well, I am out of their plot. Let the Chinese handle the Chinese.

Yes, they earn commission. In fact, when we arrived at the joint, a tough looking man came out from no where and talked to the driver, and then he walked behind us while we were walking to the joint. Is he trying to escort us or preventing us of turning back?

During the journey to the joint, I told the driver to go to the KTV at Ramada Hotel which I knew, he kept telling me that that joint was not good and expensive (which is true). I should have insisted as I knew that place and have been there before. Sigh... A lesson learnt. Luckily it was only RMB 1500 and we left the place in one piece.

My another 2 cent worth.

While I was there for 1yr plus, I was luck not to fall into such traps, cos I seldom wonder off-track. It is still better to go familiar places or joints patronised by bros here.

Also, I always go ktv wif a bunch of polices..or a grp of reporters.. Nobody dare to touch these pple..

Ya, these are the common tricks & tell-tale signs. Even though we knew it, sometimes, just a slip from our minds, or not paying enough attention to such minor details, we land ourselves into their traps again.

I also wanted to say in my previous post, if kena local Chinese with some "background" or has ability to call for reinforcements, the black-shop won't have such an easy time. In fact, they may risk having their shop smashed, + hosting a banquet as apology, and probably several other forms of apology. Not so much a matter of money, it's more of a matter of getting "face" back!

I was in such situations before in GuangZhou & Hubei. In 1 incident in Hubei, guns were even drawn & pointed at pple!!!

We really need to be careful, in China for more than one and a half decade, I have been very careful. Still, I fall into this kind of trap twice already, the first time was in Beijing during my early days (early nineties).

It is good to warn each other about this kind of tricks.
