Maybe your friend said that just to see how desperate you are. He might wants to see if you are 'picking & choosy'. The economy is not expected to be great in the next few quarters, so if you are willing to consider a being a cleaner, then maybe you really need his help.

To be honest, yes your friend is fuck up. Those who say cleaner is a decent job is an ass too. Your friend should give you advise based on your education experience etc..

However having to say that people who ask you be cleaner are those who don't give a shit about you, so my question is. In your 20 years do you show concern and care to your 20 years friend, if you really sincerely did. Let us say you can check the internet around Singapore, freelance cleaner is the trend these days. I actually reserve 'freelance cleaner' when I meet people that are physically fit and mentally able, I myself did 'dishwasher' before, it is a very easy job when one is down in the doldrums. When they let you handle the huge machine and loads of plates, the dishwasher becomes everybody's greatest dilemma if you understand where I am coming from.

'Dishwasher' is not a person, it's a piece of machine that replaces me and you, so my job is only to arrange the scrubbed plates properly, close the lid, and then let the hot water do everything, then place the plates properly once rinsed. Similarly when we e.g. your friend says 'cleaner', cleaner can also be a machine you know. A short time ago when I used to sleep along the benches of Tan Tock Seng Hospital or Changi Airport Terminal 2, cleaner is a high tech worker that does shift work after office hours, and with a smartphone you send a nice 'cleaner' machine go around a robotic sequence, the job is just to stand there and study the artificial intelligence or watch youtube videos.
