I need advice from folks here. While I am in the midst of divorcing my soon-to-be ex-wife, I am preparing for the engagement party with my current girlfriend. If it is wedding banquet, I know that I am committing bigamy when the divorce procedure is not yet completed. But if I am doing engagement ceremony, am I committing bigamy? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Women's Charter section 6.
Any person lawfully married under any law, religion, custom or usage who during the continuance of that marriage purports to contract a marriage in Singapore or elsewhere under any law, religion, custom or usage in contravention of section 4 shall be deemed to commit the offence of marrying again during the lifetime of the husband or wife, as the case may be, within the meaning of section 494 of the Penal Code (Cap. 224).

Basically s.494 PC is the punishment.

If the the engagement ceremony smells like a marriage rite, looks like a marriage rite, tastes like a marriage rite, feels like a marriage rite and looks like a marriage rite, then you are in trouble.

Don't be offended, but why the rush?
