SMRT: Free Public Transport on National Day

Private public transport operator SMRT today (August 1) announced that they will be providing free train and bus services on National Day (August 9).
Passengers will be able to board the North-South, East-West and Circle and Bukit-Panjang train lines, and in all SMRT bus services including night riders for free. The SMRT staff will also be distributing SG50 souvenirs at 10 train stations and 5 bus interchanges.

SMRT yesterday just reported a S$20 million profit in its latest financial quarter and Singaporeans have reacted negatively towards the news especially after a fare hike in April this year. The Singapore public transport have been a major worry for Singaporeans due to overcrowding, irregular train services and breakdowns as frequent as a monthly affair.
