500 ways to enter Malaysia illegally
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
BUKIT KAYU HITAM, March 13 — In 60 minutes, Malay Mail came across 15 rat holes spanning 500 metres of the security fencing along the Malaysia-Thailand border near here. The holes, big enough for people to crawl or walk through, appeared to have been stretched, a sign of regular intrusion into the country. Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Zaini Japar accompanied the Malay Mail team following the disclosure by National Security Council chairman Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim that “illegals are coming in (the country) daily, sometimes hourly. The rat holes in the fencing have grown bigger ... anyone can sneak in”. It is learnt there are more than 500 such gaping holes in the 30km barbed wire border fencing that has become a brunt of criticism. The issue of foreigners sneaking into the country has been on the radar for years, but except for mere talk, nothing has been done to check the flow through illegal routes. Following this week’s Malay Mail investigations into practically non-existent controls at the Malaysia-Thailand border in the north, two leaders related their experiences dating to 1995. They repeated their calls to the government to address the security issue. On Wednesday, Shahidan said the problem along the Padang Besar-Bukit Kayu Hitam border had been around during his tenure as Perlis menteri besar from 1995 to 2008. Yesterday, Ahmad Zaini revealed he had seen illegals sneaking into the country while playing golf at a resort in Kedah. “This happened some four years ago. I saw them running on the golf course and quickly alerted the resort’s security guards but they told me they had no power to arrest them. How can we allow this to happen? The government must address this problem,” he said. Ahmad Zaini, who is also a member of the Malaysia-Thailand joint border control committee, said the issue was “very serious” and the government must enhance the security system and upgrade facilities there. During our tour yesterday, we even saw an abandoned watch tower 200m from the checkpoint. It would be easy for anyone to climb over or cut through the fence with the right tools. Ahmad Zaini said intelligence reports disclosed more than 1,500 illegal immigrants were waiting to enter the country through Wang Kelian in Perlis. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/500-ways-e...inkId=12896835 Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
