A young wheeler-dealer with links to Prime Minister Najib Razak was in the spotlight on Malaysian social media and online news portals after the New York Times reported that he bought prime real estate in the United States worth US$41.5 million (S$56.1 million) that he later sold to Datuk Seri Najib's stepson for healthy profits, raising questions over the family's massive wealth.
Mr Low Taek Jho, popularly known as Jho Low, bought three luxury homes worth US$72 million in 2010 and 2011.
Mr Najib's stepson, Mr Riza Aziz, a producer of such films as Dumb And Dumber To and The Wolf Of Wall Street, which was banned in Malaysia, bought two of these, the newspaper said. Mr Low made a 40 per cent profit on one of the transactions, it added.
