Man on trial for allegedly raping woman multiple times in public

Lim Choon Beng, accused of raping a 24-year-old woman along Martin Road, told the High Court on Tuesday (May 3) that he "does not remember his actions”.

SINGAPORE: A 30-year-old man accused of repeatedly raping a young woman in public told the High Court on Tuesday (May 3) that he "does not remember his actions”.

Lim Choon Beng pleaded not guilty to the seven charges against him, including three counts of rape, at the start of his trial on Tuesday morning.

The victim, a Chinese national who was then 24 years old, testified that she was “waylaid” by Lim in the early hours of Feb 9, 2013 – the eve of Chinese New Year. Between 3.15am and 3.35am, Lim raped the young woman, a performing artiste, thrice. He also sexually assaulted her, for which he faces another three counts.

The seventh charge is for using criminal force to outrage the woman’s modesty – Lim had sat on her body and grabbed her breast.

The brazen assault lasting 20 minutes took place along a stretch of road from Martin Road leading up to River Valley Close.

The prosecution is expected to call several witnesses, among them a woman who called the police upon witnessing the assault and a female driver who picked the victim up and drove her in search of a police station.

The victim, the prosecution’s first witness, took the stand on Tuesday morning. She is expected to testify over two days. To protect her identity, the hearing is not open to members of the media and the public while the victim is in the witness box.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Lin Yinbing said Lim’s DNA was found on the victim’s bra and her blood was found on Lim’s underwear and clothing.

The trial is expected to last eight days and Lim is being defended by lawyer Anand Nalachandran, who has taken on the case pro bono.

For rape, Lim could face up to 20 years’ jail and caning.

I saw a similar incident too. Last week at Tanah Merah mrt, a family of 4 bring their kids out. At the top of the platform, the daddy just put down the pants and let the kids pee into ntuc plastic bag. Then they board the same train as me, holding the plastic bag with yellow juice.

I wanted to pull the emergency button but was rushing for time so this family gotten lucky

For once somebody is smart enough to see that this is NOT about politics . Why people must think that it is politics. So does that mean you guys can accept mrt breakdowns despite fare increases and govt using tax payers money to buy new trains for the 2 private companies. despite all efforts service level is way below par .
