Fore warning all fellow bros to this posting.
Shanghai is a metropolitan city with many established infra structure and regulations.
However, it is still China.

Thru out the years of dwelling here, I've came across many fellow bros being conned and caught in the mentioned scam, thus suffering grave financial damages.

Do bear in mind that never to venture out to any joints alone, or even with a few fellow bros or friends. Only patronize joints or establishments that are mentioned or recommended by fellow herein on this forum.

The particular place that lurks with such temptations which lead to such scams are places like tourist attraction places such as The Bund area, The Nanjing East Road walking street.
Many such scams involved SYTs prowling for preys, particularly on man being alone, looking all too tourist type.....

Hope the above info are of use to fellow bros, mostly to fellow new bros who are here on either short visits or even here for perm basis at a initial stage.

Xintiandi is a tourist attraction spot of which similar to our Clarke Quay. It's a place with many old shop houses being refurbished into F&B outlets.

Indeed one can get hook with SYT there, but do exercise cautions. Many are outer provincial SYTs seeking freebies like free drinks and food. Also, there'll be some that are there to prey on unsuspected one, like the earlier post on scams.

One can try local tour guide, of whom are girls in the Uni still, earning the extra bucks during school holidays and over the weekends, but it'll come with exorbitant fees.

Yes, end of the year, before chinese new year is always like this. Every customer is suddenly hyper-active. Been to Beijing, Shenzhen, DongGuan, Huizhou and spent 1-day in Shanghai last sunday only. All that was within a week.

Shanghai tomorrow and will stay until March. I am wondering about two things:

1. Any good and cheap local prepaid mobile line operator I can buy from. Better still if IDD is cheap.

2. Can I open a bank account with working permit? I really want a Unionpay Card for ease of purchase. I flyback every month and thus don't need a work permit in China.

U can open a bank account with just your passport, select the banking facilities u required e.g. ATM card, Internet Banking, Phone Banking etc.

U may need to provide them a PRC Address and PRC Mobile Number (for Phone Banking) etc.

ATM card comes with UnionPay, just like NETS in SGP.

By Law.....u need a work permit to work in China.....and thats by requirements of the Law lah
