I have to take some american colleagues over to a mid range KTV. I haven't really hosted such a thing before, most of the time, my china colleagues pays the bills. I'll like to know the cost structure.
For example, cost of room, cost of the girls for the night (within KTV), cost of the various tips, cost of food, cost of alcohol (mostly beer, do they have wine ?). Any other cost I've missed out ?

What's the cost for a typical KTV night out with 4 people ?

I know the cost varies from place to place, just need to know the cost for a mid range KTV. thanks all. Would be good if you can specify the exact KTV name, some place where the girls are playful, daring and is suitable for caucasians (ie. english speaking).

Heard G18 is closed??? There is only one way to find out i.e. call mamasan (for those who have her no). No used calling the club phone coz they too will be extra cautious and say that they are closed. I went back again last friday at nite, the receptionist also told me closed already but i called the mamasan and she just said ok...you come.

Hope this place can last longer...i am going back in Nov....

Bro... a lot of bros wun really share the more reasonably priced, yet with lots of chiobus ktv to u one...... cos later too many people go liao spoil market and they raise price or harder to get the chiobus liaoz....

anyway, costs i can give u:
cost of room - this one they charge is minimum fee that means u have to spend a minimum amount, no actually room cost. usu 4 people room have a minimum of 680-980rmb.

cost of the girls for the night (within KTV) - 300-400rmb/per girl, sit whole night

cost of the various tips- mami tip 300rmb, waiter (guy that carries the drinks/stuff) 100rmb, DJ/Princess (pour dirnk) - 200rmb.

cost of food - usu 30-50rmb for plate of fried rice/noodle

cost of alcohol - 600-900 rmb/bottle of chivas. either buy 2 get 1 free or buy 3 get 1 free. beer - 50-60rmb per bottle.

the minimum charge is included the room cost ....
thus if the room minimum charge is 1000rmb and ur drinks & food bill is only 800rmb .. u still pay 1000rmb ...
vice versa, if ur drinks & food bill is 1300rmb ... u pay 1300rmb ... 明白吗

the higher class it is, the higher rate it will be ...
and in shanghai ktv .. the gals r not obligated to go out with u unless it is agreed earlier ... thus check with the mami and tell her what u want to avoid disappointment ...

I know the area pretty well - 雅典皇宫. They always insists that they are decent. They do provide hj, but not fj. You'll have to get the above 400 or 500rmb massage for the hanky panky. The lower range massages are decent with fugly girls. Personally, I don't go to the bath houses for the girls. Usually they don't do fj, just hj and they charge 500rmb for that.
As for the massage parlors near 雅典皇宫, they all offer hj, with the exception of one decent shop. Any massage parlors with girls standing outside with short skirts and black stockings offer hj. Don't ask for hj at the counter, negotiate it with your masseur. Just remember discretion is the key here, especially with Expo next year. Never state your intentions to the front desk (you'll draw a blank), just to the person who is servicing you. Of course, it always works better if you chat her up first, give her compliments, ask about her experiences here in Shanghai (99.9% are from outside Shanghai) etc...

Minimum room charges (最底消费) are typical in China. Besides KTVs, rooms in most restaurants have such applicable rates too. In legal terms that you might be already familiar with, it simply means "whichever is higher". For example, you visit a KTV, minimum charges for the room is 1000. If you spend 1200 that night, you pay 1200... that's all (not inclusive of tips). If you ordered only a beer that cost 50, you still have to pay a 1000 in all. Hope this makes sense to you.

Typical cost of taking a girl out? Mmmmmm..... In Shanghai, newbie me have still not visited a KTV that has a strict price structure for take outs, unlike the southern provinces. In this part of China, which includes places like Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing...etc, a lot of negotiation is required. As far as my experience goes, most of the mms did not let me "take out". Hehehehe. Maybe a couple of examples will help.

E.g.1 Brother Just4fun negotiated with his gal one night and it was agreed for 1200 (one shot). Just before hopping onto the taxi, she demanded 1500.

E.g.2 Brother Seraphium offered to send his gal home. Instead, she took him to a hotel, gave him a good one... and paid for the hotel room as well. Luck, looks, charm????? Don't ask me. The only thing I know... she's pregnant now.... hahahahaha
