Foreigners run sex rings under legal business

A number of foreigners, who appeared to have provided the expat community with legal entertainment services, have actually run prostitution-related activities, according to a report by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).

At a meeting on August 7, Bureau of Social Evil Prevention under MoLISA, stated that a number of foreigners contributing money towards establishing hotels, karaoke lounges, bars, and night clubs in export processing zones and industrial zones in Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai have been found running sex rings.

According to the report, there are an estimated 30,000 Vietnamese prostitutes in Vietnam, most of whom work in organized groups or are involved in trans-provincial prostitution rings.

Some even contact tour guides to approach visitors at destinations in and outside Vietnam, it said.

About 30,000 service providers in Ho Chi Minh City and 25,000 in Hanoi operate in sensitive areas and could have secretly run prostitution-related activities, the report said.

In other news, the national number of drug users grew by 13,000 in the first six months of this year, the document added.

Sex ring charging $2.5k/time smashed in city

Police in Ho Chi Minh City busted a call girl ring after they raided a grand hotel in District 1 and caught four high-class prostitutes having sex with well-off clients.

Beauty queens, models, and ‘online hot girls’ were involved in the ring run by Tran Quang Mai, 40, who resides in Tan Binh District.

Investigators said that a few days ago, Mai provided a rich client with 27-year-old Vo Thi My Xuan, a beauty queen in a Mekong Delta province, at US$2,000 per appointment.

On the afternoon of June 2, Mai asked a hot girl and a student to serve clients for $2,500 and VND5 million ($250) per appointment, respectively.

Most prostitutes of the ring received half of the profits for selling themselves, the investigators added.

Apart from being a prostitute, Xuan was an agent for another queen beauty and model who sold herself for $1,500 per appointment, of which X. received $500.

Vo Thi My Xuan was born 1985 in Hau Giang Mekong Delta province. She defeated 170 contestants to win MIss Soc Trang 2009 or Miss South MeKong 2009.

After winning the contest, she has been invited to participate in several fashion shows and to pose for magazines. Xuan has graduated from a college and is currently an assistant for a marketing company and a popular model on catwalk in Ho Chi Minh City.

In related news, on May 24, Hanoi police raided a hotel in Ba Dinh District and caught two couples in the act. Concurrently, Ho Chi Minh City police also found another couple at M&M hotel.

Among those detained is model and actress Hong Ha, who is believed to be paid US$1,000-1500 per time. Hong Ha has been modeling for some foreign and national magazines and fashion brands and starred in several movies.

Miss South Mekong 2009 Vo Thi My Xuan has admitted to procuring beauties, hot girls, and actresses for well-off clients doing business with her sex ring, police sources have said.

Xuan said a beauty queen in Ben Tre Mekong Delta Province, a model purportedly working for a famous fashion company in Ho Chi Minh City, and an attractive young woman known for sexy photos are members of her ring.

In related news two other pimp suspects, including an actress who starred in a Golden Kite nominated film, have been also summoned for questioning.

A source said that on June 4 police in Ho Chi Minh City detained Le Quang Tuan Anh, 27, a make-up artist, for his involvement in the high-class prostitution ring run by Miss My Xuan.

Tuan Anh is said to maintain a good relationship with a number of beauties and models in Vietnamese showbiz. Tuan Anh took 60 percent of the profits earned by the prostitutes.

Another suspected pimp is a 26-year-old model-cum-actress who lives in Binh Thanh district. She won second place in a beauty contest and starred in the action movie “Lenh Xoa So”, one of 12 nominees for the Golden Kite 2011.

However she was released on bail due to her late-term pregnancy.

The actress is thought to have lured My Xuan to sell herself for the first time. In a recent time, the actress offered My Xuan a “US$2,500 deal” with a man in Vung Tau city in which she took $1,000 as a fee for a broker.

Miss My Xuan also confessed to organizing a prostitution ring at her private house in Binh Khanh Ward in District 2.

The ring also provided sex workers to rich men going abroad for holidays or business at a fee ranging from $12,000 to $15,000 for a two or three day trip.

Around 20 people have been summoned for their involvement in the high-class ring, police said.

Investigators said that at 5:00pm on June 2, the Police Department of Criminal Investigation in Social Order (C45) in Ho Chi Minh City carried out a surprise raid on a big hotel in District 1 and caught four high-class prostitutes engaging in sexual acts with clients. Most of them are models and actresses.

Miss Vo Thi My Xuan and 40-year-old Tran Quang Mai, two pimps of the ring, were later arrested for their involvement.
