Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
big mistake if spurs buy riquleme,he does not wrk hard enough n yes his ability to keep the ball n thread those killer balls r is asset but he will fail in the epl,jus like in the copa where brazil jus killed him of n argentina were all at sea.but if spurs think he can slove thier prob they r in for a shock, why do u think villareal is getting rid of him for only 10 mil,he was a non performer for barca.i agree he s a gd player but not in the epl.if u seen him play sometimes he jus dissappers.he jus walks ard,but when he s in the mood he s world class but i guess the epl hardmen in midfield will have him for breakfast lunch n dinner.jus my point of view.

his work rate is sometimes a big question. but you dont expect a super star attacking midfielder like him to help the defence diligently or run all over the midfield. his touches, his corners, his freekicks, his passes... good enough liao. |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
martin jol is still good lah, although he is screwing up the left flank. spurs can never do wrong with argentine players... ok ok no need to remind me of taricco...
riquelme! riquelme! riquelme! [/QUOTE] To a certain extent, i agree with the actions taken by levy. Jol's past several comments seems that he is trying to cover his arse for bad results. With the amt of dosh spent on players the past couple of seasons and the squad size, he should do better although having said that 2 games into the new seasons does seem to be overeacting a teeny bit. Im a Jol fan but levy is spot on with the results against the top 4 sides. Jol's subsitutions or plan B seem to fall short more often than not unlike the top 4 managers. However, better to make judgement after at least 10 games. I think riquelme is a panic buy/option. Personally, i dont really rate him and dont think he can handle the pace of epl football. Furthermore, @29 he's probably got no world cup to aim for and is looking for one last big pay packet |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
its still very early now and jol should learn from the 2 losses. anyway you can blame half the amount of money spent on recent transfers on "buying youth".
is any of those players signed from EPL top 4 or real madrid or ac milan etc? any of them have big stage experience? can we really say the current spurs team is champion league material? spurs battle cries are "top 4 league position!" or "champions league spot!", something like that. its natural coming with two 5th spot finish last 2 seasons. martin jol has changed spurs' fortunes from mid table ice cream to UEFA cup going-to-be winners, i was quite angered to read about spurs' approach to sevilla's ramos with the intention to replace jol. come on you spurs chairman and directors, its just 2 losses. |

Why not? I think he is a class act. And I reckon MJol will not play him week in week out as I think its better for us to rotate the midfield a little. Mind you we have Jenas, Malbranque, Zokora, Hudds, Boateng, taarabt, Ghaly, Murphy, Tainio to fight for 2 cmf roles. Surely Jol would want to play fresh players every week. So I think by signing Riquelme, it would definitely bring flair and steel to our mf. We certainly lack flair in the middle of the park, where only Taarabt and Malbranque are the only 2 who provide those skills. I agree. He was superb throughout the championship prior to the final. To me he is class, maybe not as classy as Messi, but definitely better than once-linked Alessandro d'Alessandro and Ariel Ortega. |

Argies perhaps have produced the best talents in the last 2 decades. Aimar, D'Alessandro and Ortega were all once linked to us. Its a shame we didnt manage to sign them. Plus, we were linked with the likes of Martin Palermo, Fernando Cavenaghi, Tevez, Heinze, Ayala etc...sigh...and we got TARRICO! Maybe we should look at the prospect of signing Brazillians as well , just to add flair. In the past, we were linked with Juninho (Paulista, not Pernambucano), Denilson and Rivaldo but no one came to us...well...except for no-appearence-in-the-1st-team Rodrigo Defendi.!!!! (note that his name matches his position as a defender!..or perhaps a certain designer bag label...) |

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
true he played well, but he failed when it mattered n the epl is not a mickey mouse league, yes he will kill of teams if given time n space but r spurs willing to build the team around him.i doubt so. go n get guti n its also unfair to judge mj after 3 games after wat he had done in the last 3 seasons

Re: Tottenham Hotspur - the Pride of London
Fergie and Wenger speak out as pressure builds on Spurs boss
Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger today came out in support of embattled rival Martin Jol and called on Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to remain true to his word that the Dutchman will not be sacked. Spurs travel to Old Trafford on Sunday in a state of disarray after a week of farce at White Hart Lane. Champions Manchester United have not won this season and will test the resolve of the visiting players who have been stunned by the events of the past seven days. Ferguson said: "It is no secret that I interviewed Martin Jol for the position as my No2 when Carlos Queiroz left to go to Real Madrid as manager. "Martin has an outstanding record in Holland where he worked with very meagre resources. He does not need me to tell him what a good job he has done. "It has all been very sad and a knee-jerk reaction to Tottenham's bad start to the season. The chairman has said his full support is behind the manager and I just hope the support is right." Wenger has accused Tottenham of "impatience" in heaping so much pressure on Jol. The Arsenal manager admits he has viewed events at White Hart Lane this week only as an outsider but says it's far too early in the season for the Dutchman's job to come under threat. His comments came after another day of mayhem at Tottenham. First, the club were forced to issue a statement insisting they did not want Fabio Capello to become their new manager after the Italian arrived on a day-trip to London. Then, Levy gave Jol the dreaded vote of confidence, issuing a statement claiming the coach had his "100 per cent backing" and that the club did not have to finish in the top four for the manager to keep his job. Paul Robinson also backtracked, on the club's website, less than 24 hours after castigating the board for undermining Jol and claimed that far from dividing the squad it had "made us stronger and we're all pulling in the same direction". But that may not be enough to convince Dimitar Berbatov to stay at Spurs, with his agent Emil Dantchev saying "this situation is not a children's joke" after meeting Levy to discuss the striker's future. Arsenal fans will be revelling in the soap opera as it takes more twists ahead of their Premier League meeting at White Hart Lane on 15 September. But for Gunners boss Wenger, the situation is a sorry reflection of the "win at all costs" culture that now dominates the game in this country. The Frenchman said: "You cannot decide that after two games. You are surprised. I'm not in the best position to make any comment on Tottenham but we are in a modern impatient world. "I don't know what's happening inside the club. Frankly, it's not my responsibility. Tottenham are responsible for their decisions and we are responsible for our own. It's not proven that they were talking to another manager but I feel generally that two games is not a lot." Jol will this afternoon face the media for the first time since it emerged that Spurs officials had met Juande Ramos in Seville before the Spaniard turned down the chance to move to White Hart Lane. The Dutchman can take comfort from the fact that Capello is not angling for his job, at least not openly, with the Italian saying today: "At no time did I have any contact with Tottenham and I did not come over for the Tottenham job." The job on Sunday will be to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford - a game Berbatov will probably miss with a groin injury.
