I know what you are talking abt. Saturaday at 3 pm, all the casinos are "forced" to close. Some big shot came down from Jakarta. Of course, yesterday rurmoured to be opened at 3 pm again. But not too sure. Many of my friends who come here to gamble are disappointed.

Yes, heard that Widada, cant really get his name spelled right, got approval from the top to build a Genting style casino and theme park at Barelang. Well, no news if that is true or not yet.

As for their shut down and so on. There are no concrete steps taken yet. As least that is what I have known. The shut down has been ordered for a long time. Still I see them growing by the numbers everyday.

You mean TW? tony Winata?Yes,heard,it's approved.Another Genting style casino is also being planned at Sekupang...near the old Hill top hotel.
Anyway,Bintan will have their first casino soon,located at Wisma BRC.Renovation works are ongoing..

Anyway,looks like a lot of casinos workers,staffs and satpams will be unemployed if they close the casinos..

Two sect of triad members got into a fight on last Friday nite at a disco in an up market hotel (no hotel name is mentioned)

A local journalist claims that fights take place almost every month but the scale is not comparable to last Friday's one.

The reason of the fight is due to the failure to arrive a peace negotiation between the Heads of the 2 triads, pertaining to their share of 'protection money' from those casinos.

Hence, the authority have to shut down the operations of the casinos to ensure the safe interests of the punters, esp. those from Sg.

The casinos has been re-opened on Sunday nite.

Shutdown to last till Friday as Indonesian police investigate illegal gambling

GAMBLERS planning to try their luck this Chinese New Year will have to scratch Batam off their wish list.

The authorities there have ordered gaming houses on the island, some of which operate as casinos, to stay closed until Friday, when a decision will be made on whether to reopen them.

When contacted by The Straits Times yesterday, Batam police chief Andayono said he was acting on instructions from 'higher authorities' in Jakarta.

The clampdown has been in force since the weekend. Police have already raided one casino located near the Holiday Inn Hotel and are investigating the case as illegal gambling.

Under Indonesian law, gambling is prohibited and casinos are not authorised, said Batam Industrial Development Authority's senior official, Mr John Arizal, yesterday.

It is understood that Batam local authorities issue entertainment licences that allow items like jackpot machines, but some of these 'gaming houses' breach the regulations by offering casino games like blackjack, baccarat and roulette.

There are at least four such outlets in Batam - one near the Holiday Inn at Waterfront City, another at Nongsa about an hour's drive away in the north and two others in Nagoya Town in the centre of the island.

It is estimated that up to 3,000 patrons flock to these places on weekdays and at least a thousand more on weekends.

A recent Straits Times check of one casino near Waterfront City showed it is well-organised and well-patronised, mostly by middle-aged Singaporeans, who are ferried there from the pier.

Patrons must submit either their passport or identity card before they are allowed in.

Saturday's shutdown was not linked to a brawl that took place at the Ozone Theatre discotheque near Planet Holiday Hotel a day earlier.

It is understood the incident was sparked off when a security supervisor was punched by an outsider.

Batam police said that three people were arrested but no one was injured and no Singaporeans were involved.

(Word on the ground that higher authorities are demanding higher Ang Pows due to Chinese New Year,however casinos bosses refused...)

hi bro,

all night entertainment should be open except the gambling den, me was there on 09/02/05 night back on sg yesterday afternoon.

For massage, you can try putri-garden hotel (bali spring spa) good massage with cream for (Rp60k/hr) + Spa with stream room, sauna, gym, hot and cool pool. (Rp30/unlimited) = Rp90.

Batam still "sleeping mode". Alot of shops are not open yet as I write now. Maybe they maybe open later. Most of the ones that open are the makan ones.

As for the casinos.... Still no word yet. Heard that the casinos will take a longer time, until the "heads meeting". May take some time. Once I got info, I will post the news.

Bintan getting a new casino? At BRC? Where is it? Any brothers can provide more info? Me not too good on bintan. If open, I just take a boat off Pungol to Bintan, the transport mode from here to Bintan to look look see see. May be try a Bintan gal there also... heehehe

HEy Bro pest,

U sure at sekupang? Wat I hear was at barelang, where they are going to build the mega one and then close all at the batam island.

Anyway, heard that the police raid the casinos, all 4 of them last week, Mandarin, Nongsa, waterfront and Planet. All the people are told to leave by back door. Some are caught at Waterfront. But pay $$ to "bail out". So far no more news.

Yea, rumurs that the big boss in Jakarta wants to tackle this problem here. Maybe becos ang Pow not big enough? Or just a show of force by the govenment to applease the muslim?

THere are jackpot room in Jakarta, in fact so many of them there too. But I heard that the amount paid to the "boss" is in fact very high also. Any they are allowed to operate freely, close when ordered to.

Anyway, singapore govenment plaaning to build a casino also, so why bother to come to batam?
