Several of such con-shops were raided (by both black & white streams) & closed by police in recent 2 - 3 years. But, if done by police, they can easily pop-up again very quickly.

It is not the shop that you mentioned, caused we took a lift up to the 7 floor. The restaurant is actually accessible inside the shop that sells the Beijing Olympic items, you need to walk all the way to the end to take the lift.

There could have several of these con shops around the area.

Ha Ha. I also had similar encounter when I was in SH last year. But that time it was a reverse situation.

When walking along the walking street, a guy out of nowhere walked very close to me. He asked do I want gals ? I realized that he was a pimp. Although I was quite horny, but dun feel comfortable being approached by strangers, and I lifted my guard. I firmly said no, but he still very persistant to promote his gals.

I very tulan, found a bench and sat down. I loudly said no, I dun like gals, do you have MAN ! He was very shocked and could not said a word. Probably my action attracted some attention, and he finally gave up and walked away.

If I am not mistaken, one of such cafes is located at the coner of a road junction, 2nd floor. Opposite the cafe, at the opposite corner of the small road, is a shop selling Gold stuff. The entrance to the cafe is behind a shop front selling some food stuff. Beware. I went there with some friends by mistake, and the staff were not very friendly, and it seemed that they wanted us to leave as soon as possible, Later my Shanghainese friends told me that it was not a "Normal Friendly Cafe".. Hahaa..

I also have many such encounter, at one of the occasions, I told him not to follow me. He replied that Nanjing East Lu did not belong to me, he could walk anyway he liked. I told him off, by saying that "You can walk to anywhere you like, but do not talk to me!". I laughed loudly and walked off. Becareful, we cannot hid ourselves being a foreigner in Shanghai. They are smart.

So you have a good laugh. That's a good one.

I'm thinking of a counter-attack when we are being approached the pretty ladies. We can suggest for a drink somewhere, but the place is not at their choice. We can bring them back to our hotel. If they are call girl, offer them a price, if they are up to con you, they will back up. Thinking of it, some of them looks young and pretty.

Probably they see us good to eat. If still cannot get rid of them, can approach a gong an (quite a common sight), and they sure will disappear.
