a warning to you guys .. stopped for a beer in one of those open front bars on soi diana called jims beer bar (opposite areca lodge), sat at a table facing out onto the road and ordered a beer which arrived plus bin. minutes later after having maybe 3 or 4 sips of the beer a second bin arrived for 900 baht!!! i said whats this .. mamasan says you buy drinks for ladies, well i honestly thought she was joking with me so i tried to laugh it off .. but no her face didnt change at all!! my mind was racing a bit .. i hadnt spoken to anyone or looked at any of girls, id noticed them but wasnt interested i was just sitting facing out to the road! maybe i had accidently bumped into the bell? but no there was no bell near me ... wait a minute i thought 900 baht thats like 9 lady drinks but only 3 or 4 staff there!! ok it dawned on me i was being shaken down .. this is a first for me ive had bill padding and extra drinks arriving for girls im talking to which ive always paid without much fuss, i just put it down as the price to pay for a good few weeks holiday ... but this was something entirely different and for the first time on 20 years coming here i started to lose my temper, i threatened to call the police and voices were raised things started to turn ugly. something at the back of my mind told me this needed to be defused immediately as there were other thais watching the argument and i thought probably 1000 baht wasnt that bad to get a quick exit. I got out my wallet handed over 1000 baht and left (without even finishing my beer). Watch out guys i think some of the beer bars are really struggling at the moment.
This is the exact quote from another forum. Watch out guys, business is low, scams are back. Pattaya tourist police 1155, when in trouble, call this number, but if can siam, better still!
Best advice if still not sure. Narrow down an area or soi with more guest houses. Go to the reception and ask if u can see the room first......... If like, can choose to pay daily so u can change guesthouses easily.
Thanks bro indianmagicoil, Yes, thats what I have in mind and been doing research during my free time, narrowing down by area, and when get bored already, move to the next area.

1) Guest houses are cheaper but usually the rooms are fairly small and basic.
2) Guest houses do not provide safety boxes; not provided in the room, and rarely if at all, provided in the reception.
3) Guest houses do not have security guards.
4) Places like Liquid Lounge and Queen Victoria are located above or next to beer bars, that will open until very late into the night (early morning), and the music will be blasting all the time. So ensure you ask reception for a quiet room in the guest house, away from the music.
5) I have personally stayed in Nova Park Service Apartment located off Soi 2 last month. It is a great place with big rooms, very nice swimming pool; they have a pub that serves western food and excellent buffet breakfast for Bht 150 per person, and there are small food stalls in front of the hotel that open until 4.00 am. Big disadvantage is that it is far away from the main road, i.e. you have to know how to take motor bike taxi from the main road.
6) If you are a newbie, I suggest that you stay in the hotels or guesthouses that are located along the main Song Teow routes. This way, you just have to hop on to any song teows and ring the bell when you reach your destination. After a while, you will become familair with the roads, and you can choose to stay a little outside the main perimeter.
7) Soi Diana and Soi Buakhow are good places to stay as the hotels are cheaper and there is a lot of happening go-gos, beer bars and FL at night.
8) Careful when you walk the street and take the song teows late at night, especially when you are tipsy or drunk; there are a lot of dishonest and desperate criminals waiting to pickpocket you, or even rob you with a weapon.
Enjoy yourself and chiong safe always.
With regards from jimmycool.
Thanks bro jimmycool, seems you make many trips there already, i will prob heed your words and stay along the Song Teow routes for a few days before going to the next area. I think i am spoilt for choice.
And bro Ah_Hia, thats a really nice place. Good space and quite homely to me. Thats part of the reason i like guesthouses. The safe box look big too. If the one you posted is in pattaya, i will try find out the location online hehe. thanks for sharing.

Bro this is Pattaya thread right ?
Of course i will post a guesthouse based in Pattaya mah.
How can post another area hotel in here ?
Bro Ah Hia's guest house room velly nice (can say "velly nice" or not ah?) but since he not sharing I share mine, room also just as big. Nice kinky fauz tiger skin sofa, big TV but only no WIFI or computer... it's Tornado at Soi 6 costs Bht600/night. Near entrance of soi, good Thai street food+pub food at Queen Vic's, ST bars so convenient, 7's juz around the corner.
Noisy? Get a room facing at the back of the building though the noise from the bars never disturbed me coz they close at 2am and I'm either awake or not back yet
One note of caution for bros who always kanna racial profiled. The owner is a old Dutchman. He & his cronies like to hang around the bar on the ground floor. So if u always kanna mistaken for Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean, Malaysian or whatever mayb dun stay here. Me? I sometimes look like Thai, Jap, Korean or Hongkie but so far no hassles. Bpai teow dtong sabai-sabai mai dtong kit mak naa...
Bro Yokosi, fantastic FR! Only 2 comments. Where is the flying stirred fried vegetable restaurant? and PARAGRAPHS please! My eyes r hurting!

Nice that u can share.
I kenna zap for not sharing the guesthouse.
No problem. Still got 400+ points.
sorry you got zapped but that guesthouse is advertised in various pattaya forums. Not hard to find if do a bit of search. I recognised it when you posted the photos
Also there are really a lot of guesthouses on top of bars in Metro/Soi Boukhao are that has AC/Safe/CableTV, some even free wifi under 800B/d. I believe Metro apartment is one of the fav among falangs.

Yeah the tiger skin sofa so 70's porn movie! I think their WIFI can only receive downstairs in the bar only. Usually I go to Queen Vic for a pint and use their free WIFI there.
Being mistaken for a local is not a bad thing. I used to travel extensively throughout the region so its good to blend in especially in countries where public safety is not so good.
U mistaken for Jap? Jing lor? They never call out "Yalitai!" to you instead?
