I never consider that as they need local address for correspondent purpose. I normally back to Singapore every 2 months, so I bring enough cash for my spending.

I don't know who to believe, about opening an account. I tried Sterling Bank and BDO: typical filipino style instead of admitting they aren't aware of the rules, the staff all parroted saying "foreigner without iCard can't open account .. " blah blah.

Even when I had relatives vouching for me, with local address etc. etc. Gave up.

Also I do know a scam in Philippines, where, when you open a bank account, you need to provide a local address. If you have substantial money, the staff cook up a scheme saying 'statement couldn't be delivered' and after a while, freeze the account - or something like that, so they can remove the balance. Of course, if you file case in Philippines, the criminals have more rights than the victims and it will be 10 years before even you will receive judgement. And in the meantime if the suspect file other dubious blotter charges, you may be barred from PH for life !

I need to apologise about conversion : when i double checked, the conversion wasn't that bad: when outside was 32.60, POSB had converted a 32.55. 5 centavo per $ is not bad, for 297 $ something $ it is only about 15 peso - for emergency use.

PS, about driving in PH, I was told, legally you can obtain a 3 month Driving License, if you do proper work. If you tap the right party, you may get a 1 year DL. Don't know the legality, as, driving with a International Driving license has it's own pitfall: If you are caught for violation (as it happened to me near Caloocan), the Cop takes your Singapore License with the IDL.

Though legally cops are not allowed to take the license it seems (or maybe that rule only applies to Filipinos )

PNB Singapore is quoting 33.63 per $



PS, POSB remittance to PH is zero transaction fee, vs PNBs 5$ per transaction

Well, my 'Peso' license in Caloocan cost me 1k You got off cheap

Though the Caloocan stop was definitely a trap to catch out of towners
