'Little Vietnam' in Joo Chiat?

WALK into any one of the Vietnamese restaurants along Joo Chiat such as Quynh Qao and Long Phung and you will be greeted with tables full of Vietnamese patrons.

From the girls working at the bars along Joo Chiat to students from Vietnam, they congregate in these eateries for authentic Vietnamese cuisine.

Has this phenomenon created a 'Little Vietnam' in Joo Chiat?

While the Vietnamese patrons we spoke to welcomed the authentic food and felt at home hearing their native language across the tables, most of them still feel that we can't quite call it a 'Little Vietnam' yet.

'It's not enough to be a Little Vietnam. Things like Little India, you can see a very strong cultural sense there like the ornament and decorations there but in Joo Chiat, it is still very Singaporean. It's just that they sell Vietnamese food here.' said D. Lam, a Vietnamese student here.
